As far as the filibuster goes I think it's anti-democratic and should be done away with. I guess the powers that be are so in love with the status quo, they don't want to allow any big changes. Or, perhaps in real life the pendulum would just swing back and forth too much? Like, every 4 years the "other" party would just re-write everything producing a sort of gridlock.
By keeping the filibuster they can keep power, make minimal changes, and keep the people distracted by endless cycles of meaningless elections that lead to a sort of gridlocked one party system that gives people the illusion they live in democracy. Because, I find it silly all this talk about saving democracy: what democracy are they even talking about? This is not majority rule.
