love this shit, the chiming chords in "she found now", fucking "who sees you"

also love that each track has a pretty well-defined sonic identity, just really well-structured and not as exhausting as plowing through loveless can be. played through this thing like four times in a row already. "new you" sounds so great after the first half

i dunno about the last three tracks though, not sure how i feel about "wonder 2" yet and i have no idea why "nothing is" is on here

"Wonder 2" strikes me as an attempt to go a step further than their last supposed "this is the future of music" achievement "Soon," i.e. strong melody over a not traditionally pop/rock beat.

Those rhythms definitely do it for me in a big way. Was thinking about the song while enjoying the crap out of Autechre's "Flutter" today.

Shields probably started it a decade and a half ago while going crazy over Aphex Twin or whatever but that rush of sound still sounds pretty damn cool, I think. Even in this post-Kid A world that we currently live in.

This pretty much sums up my feelings and just makes me laugh at people trying to explain why it's a letdown during the 48 hours after it's made available.

Loveless is awesome and all, but experiencing those songs in a live setting and now hearing this album makes it clear to me that the released album was only a step towards a sound that Kevin Shields has been obsessively tinkering with for years, waiting for modern sonics to catch up with his vision. This new shit is defined by the enveloping low-end and the fact that there's no tinniness to be found.

My Bloody Valentine - Page 5 Empty Re: My Bloody Valentine

Post by Duff... Tue Feb 05, 2013 2:01 am

Was sitting at my desk today reading a Jezebel article when I raised my arms to stretch. Suddenly something happened, and I'm not sure what, like there may have been a pop, or maybe just the sharpest deepest pain, and my neck grew warm felt like it was throbbing and I kept thinking the pain was just gonna go away but it didn't. No one seemed to notice whatever was happening to me was happening to me, so I got the attention of my coworker Ken (after discreetly closing my browser) and I didn't even know what to tell him was happening to me. It got real real quick, and I ended up sitting on the floor asking if I had a bruise on my neck and people started rushing toward me and things started getting hazy and I was sweating and they were asking if they should call someone or call an ambulance and I was like I dunno and I felt sick and apparently I was getting pale and I hear my boss Christina say to get him to the sick bed so she and Ken stand me up and I can barely breathe and we get to the elevator and I feel like I'm fading out like this is it.

And just before I lost consciousness I was thinking, at least I heard the new My Bloody Valentine.

I could understand having a song like "Who Sees You" being the last thing I hear before blacking out and feeling a little at peace.

i'm glad we can all share in this experience and perhaps one day we'll all wait in line together

I was driving home on Saturday night and realized that I had the new mbv album on my netbook on the passenger seat and the possibility of crashing and dying before getting home to hear it was definitely on my mind.

    I am OK.

When I woke up on the floor I was still having trouble breathing and I couldn't see all that well and my arms were tingling but it felt like whatever happened had passed. The ambulance took me to Northwestern and I was sent home after some tests. Had a follow up today with a super hot doctor of Japanese descent who said it was probably just a fainting spell, though she didn't know what the cause was. A bit freaked out by the unknown but just glad I didn't have stroke or anything.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Could express more but I'll spare you. I guess I could've been less dramatic with that post but I sincerely didn't know what was gonna happen. Being on the internet last night listening to She Found Now was a pretty great feeling.

I've had a similar encounter at Northwestern with this kind of doctor.

I'm also glad you're alright and share basically all the feelings expressed in the last page -- both about this record and Duff.

my dad had an episode like that last year Duff and they just gave him vertigo medicine to take in case it was reoccurring. it hasn't happened again, so i hope you're past it.

my main take on the MBV album as i've been playing a track every once and awhile is that i'm surprised to be seeing near universal acclaim for it, at least in the early going. it strikes me as very unspectacular and a little aimless. put together so meticulously though. i'm really liking it a lot for those reasons - there's great depth to these compositions. mainly just a little confused by the album "WOW"ing people. not a lot of "WOW" here for me.
