When I first heard this I thought for sure it was the big missing piece from an uninteresting puzzle: Oh, Post Malone recorded his least terrible and most boring song by covering some second tier hey-ho band, now it all makes sense. But it turns out this boring band just felt like covering this super popular super vanilla song just because? And people are listening to it on purpose? Turns out the real puzzle is humanity.

One of the cheapest and most cynical grifts running on all of YouTube, carving the soul out of every song he touches and turning it into a joyless and sanitized shell of its former self. I'll stake everything on my opinion that this is the worst musical trend of the last 20 years. There are lots of "artists" doing this right now and getting fat YouTube/movie trailer royalty checks every month but if viewcounts can be trusted, this guy seems to be the king of them all.

I made this post almost exactly one year ago and I meant every word of it.

I was not prepared for this to become one of the biggest songs of this decade or to hear it on the near-daily basis. It has somehow grown on me but more in that, "oh, there's that familiar song again" kind of way than anything more meaningful.

I have also been singing Michael Bolton to myself all morning so yeah, this is who I grew up to be.

Having heard almost none of it, I can still safely say that Harry Styles' music sucks complete shit and no one should give one fuck about it. Go listen to The 1975.

"Watermelon Sugar" does sound like a dope Gatorade flavor though.

What is this? Where did it come from? Is there some kinda story here? Are kids ingesting 50 hard boiled eggs to this song on tiktok or whatever? Like it's not bad exactly, but why is something that sounds like this everywhere right now?

These guys have spent years being perhaps our most consistently terrible band but now have decided to enter the very crowded field of "another Foster the People", and I can't decide if that's progress or not.
