I get this perspective.  I hope it nonetheless didn't prevent you from watching what ended up being a pretty damn compelling NLCS, pretty much every game was riveting.  And last night?  HOLY SHIT.  That was Bobby Thomson territory, like a once-in-your-lifetime kind of sports fandom moment.  I'm still pretty geeked.

I listened on the radio. Amazing finish, yeah. Ishikawa was on the White Sox AAA team for half of last year. Sounds like he almost retired a few times in the past few years. Pretty amazing for him to be here now.

I hope (as always) that the World Series goes 6-7 games and that most of them are exciting. Outside of that I'll be happy with whatever, it's been a pretty interesting postseason so far.

I think E-40 is sitting behind home plate at the game today.

Most neutrals would have to be supporting KC in a game 7 right?

some friends had a pumpkin carving party on saturday. once all ~13 or so jack-o'-lanterns were done we set them up on the stoop and had strangers walking by vote on their most and least favorites.

much to my surprise, the least favorite was a dead heat between the pumpkin with the word "ebola" carved into it and the KC Royals logo. people are baffling. eh

Hah wow Billy Bean's story would probably be much better known if he had risen to the position of a Billy Beane.

The Cubs are probably gonna be pretty good this year. Kris Bryant will hit more than 50 homers too.

The people on tv and the radio seem pretty confident that the Cubs'll be winning the next 5 titles, starting this year.

It just seems like they have a lot of players who either are already really good at playing baseball or seem to be well on their way to becoming really good at playing baseball.

Seems improbable but so is going 100+ years without winning a World Series. So who knows, man!

Post by Ned Braden Sun Aug 30, 2015 4:51 pm

Hawk is pretty ridiculous, and if I weren't a die hard Sox fan, I would hate him.
But I am and I love him.
    Reasons:
    1. Can't knock his radio voice. When he talks it's pretty sublime.
    2. His unapologetic pro-Sox game calling clouds the accuracy of his play-by-play and pretty much ruins his credibility, making him objectively terrible at his job. And yet, somehow, I love this. It's good to know he's watching the game from the same place I am, and every emotion I'm feeling is reflected in his horribly biased exaggerations.
    3. Could very easily be a reason to hate him, but I find it funny how much he relies on his dumb catch phrases.

Apologies for expressing the views I know to be wrongheaded... I haven't watched enough baseball this year. Hearing this guy talk words on the tv is just taking me back to a special place. God, now he's talking about Bo and Jordan taking bp back in the day fuck. Last week I was listening to Whitesox radio on some iphone ap and when the thing ended it played a game from the early 90s and Hawk and Wimpy were on play-by-play with "Ron Karkovice steps in to face Brett Saberhagen." Something about the sounds of this game just invokes the best feelings. If I ever have a kid I'm gonna make sure he or she grows up to sounds of baseball on the radio in the summertime.
