Hawk is pretty ridiculous, and if I weren't a die hard Sox fan, I would hate him.
But I am and I love him.
Reasons:
1. Can't knock his radio voice. When he talks it's pretty sublime.
2. His unapologetic pro-Sox game calling clouds the accuracy of his play-by-play and pretty much ruins his credibility, making him objectively terrible at his job. And yet, somehow, I love this. It's good to know he's watching the game from the same place I am, and every emotion I'm feeling is reflected in his horribly biased exaggerations.
3. Could very easily be a reason to hate him, but I find it funny how much he relies on his dumb catch phrases.
Apologies for expressing the views I know to be wrongheaded... I haven't watched enough baseball this year. Hearing this guy talk words on the tv is just taking me back to a special place. God, now he's talking about Bo and Jordan taking bp back in the day fuck. Last week I was listening to Whitesox radio on some iphone ap and when the thing ended it played a game from the early 90s and Hawk and Wimpy were on play-by-play with "Ron Karkovice steps in to face Brett Saberhagen." Something about the sounds of this game just invokes the best feelings. If I ever have a kid I'm gonna make sure he or she grows up to sounds of baseball on the radio in the summertime.
