Listening to the VU's The Matrix Tapes is a terrific way to start the morning. The expansive version of "White Light White Heat" on disc 3 is a stunner. How they'd transition from that garage sound and then do a very psychedelic "Heroin"... What a band.

Probably like five years ago Paves posted this track on LoPP and I immediately fell in love with this tune. I lived with a friend of mine in his little ass apartment in SF a few years ago and he had access to his roof where we would listen to Neil for hours on lawn chairs drinking beer and staring out at the ocean. It was one of the happiest times of my life.

I just remembered it because I got a text from him that he is driving with his girlfriend back to the Bay and it made me think of this song again.

Burnt Sugar - Black Sex Yall: Liberation & Bloody Random Violets

When listening to this today I was reminded of their fantastic cover of Castles Made of Sand. I can't find what album it was from... anybody with info or a link to that track would be a swell human!

I love Remain In Light. Seen and Not Seen never fails! Don't know whether it's the Kush or just the music but I just had an awesome flashback to when I was 18. I would listen to my parents vynil in my bedroom and this album was one that was a complete revelation at the time. Super deep and funky and just weird as hell. The Overload... buddy, you ain't kiddin!

I have never had anything close to a moment with this band before but I stumbled across this last night and something definitely hit me and it was like a flavor of nostalgia I've never tasted before.

I think I'll spend this morning's flight to Phoenix destroying my eardrums and listen to High on Fire the entire time.

Most everything on here except "So and Slow It Grows" sounds like the theme song to Home Improvement.

This morning I listened to Townes Van Zandt's Delta Momma Blues. I listened to Kris Krisstopherson's debut last week. I guess these are some canonized outlaw country albums but they didn't do much for me.

according to the Wikpedia, they're all laughing in this photo because Duane just ran over to his dealer and is holding a bag of drugs

"Blame It On The Rolling Stones" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.  Likely the worst opening track on a debut album for anyone, ever.

That said, "Bobby McGee" and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" are pretty great.

    Side note-
A friend of mine is currently exploring career options as a Kris Kristofferson impersonator.

2Pac is such a fun rapper to listen to. even on his lesser songs, dude flows compellingly. hopefully one day i'll know his catalog better. i love all the hits on this, but the deep cuts are good too!

i know the common knock on some of these 2Pac records is that the production is weak and/or dated, but right now i'm really loving these mid-90s West Coast vibes. it sounds "of its time" rather than "dated" to me.

I would say I have more love and just positive nostalgia for 90s rap than any other genre of music. I easily listened to All Eyez On Me more than any other album in high school.

People would make fun of me because I was a white kid living in an affluent suburb but I was like fuck you and that Steve Miller Band, Dave Mattthews & Matchbox 20 mixtape you listen to.
