Well, that wraps up a really boring NBA playoffs. GSW are a great team that will probably win it all again next season.

Looks like the Warriors didn't blow a 3-1 lead
Hopefully all the salty sports fans of the Internet can spend every year of this dynasty sucking on it

He's one of the few players the Cavs have that actually fit this matchup and he couldn't hit a damn shot. I can't imagine they'll bring him back.

Bay Area fans typically do not like "the league". I think most people like Adam Silver, but as a rep of the league he gets booed simply for being a suit.

My take on the "boringness" of the playoffs is that its actually a symptom of the NBA's general blowout problem rather than an issue with competition. The level of play in the playoffs is at an extremely high level--the level in these finals was unreal. But the NBA has been trending towards more and more blowouts for years now because of the variability of the 3-point shot and, I believe, the increased pace. When the scrutiny is at it's highest in the playoffs, seeing blowout after blowout creates a perception that the match ups "aren't close" even though the teams are very competitive. The Warriors won 4-1 and blew out the first two games of these Finals, but if their intensity levels had dropped only slightly they could've lost it all. I think that says more about the level of competition than taking the final scores in aggregate.
This is not a comment directed towards anyone here, but today has been a fun reminder that "people who enjoy sports" is one of the dumbest segments of this great country.

Re: this is a basketball thread
Given Butler's team friendly contract for the next two years, it doesn't seem possible that this could have been the best offer... A second year (but already 23 year old) PG with serious offensive limitations, a super athletic, young, and lengthy guard but who is coming off an ACL tear (which we have had more than enough of) and a fucking pick swap that only moved us up nine spots.
This team is going to be irrelevant for a very long time. They already have about $22mil in cap space now and they could potentially buy out both Wade and Hondo's contracts, but we all know that won't fucking happen.

I can't believe the Bulls picked this clown with the players available at #7. What a bunch of amateurs.

Re: this is a basketball thread
I'm not a huge fan of Dunn or LaVine, but based on other people's evaluations they are considered strong talent. 16 to 7 is also a significant pick swap. If you think Butler is leaving in free agency, this is a decent haul.
However, because of the super-max extension I don't think it was a given Butler was leaving. This seems more like a GarPax ego move because they're sick of him. Further, I don't like the trade because I wouldn't be interested in building around LaVine and Dunn. I would've targeted a more established young player rather than "upside" guys who rarely pan out.
Further still, the move to sell the #35 pick to Golden State (thank you GarPax!) shows just how unserious Bulls ownership is about rebuilding. That move casts the Butler trade in a different light: it's not that they were afraid Butler would walk, they were afraid he wouldn't walk and they'd have to super-max him. In that context, what's even the point of caring about the details? The ownership group is self-defeating as we all know.
That all being said, I also think Wiggins and Butler are fairly redundant as ball-dominant wings. The expectations for Minnesota will be sky high, but I expect them to falter again. Their roster construction is not good, they have two guards who can't shoot, and KAT is not all-the-way there defensively. I project them missing the playoffs again.

Re: this is a basketball thread
Already can't wait for the Eastern Conference Finals! I think this is a trade that could actually benefit both teams in the long-term though. Kyrie's age fits in better with the Celtics timeline and the inclusion of the Nets unprotected first round pick gives the Cavaliers some insurance for when LeBron takes his talents to Los Angeles.
But yeah, neither of these teams are going to beat the Warriors in a seven game series.

Can't wait for an extremely physical and exhausting Eastern Conference Finals & then watch the "winner " get swept by GSW.

Re: this is a basketball thread
i'm excited to see the look on Kyrie and Gordon's face when Steph and KD are flying through the air and dropping 30 on them every night.
Hayward looked a little shell-shocked during the playoff series with the Warriors this year (partially because he had that nasty bout of food poisoning). He had some decent shooting games, but didn't seem very engaged after a certain point. The Warriors have a tendency to suck the energy out of the room and Gordon was victim to that. Kyrie looked much the same in his awful games in the finals last year: trying to put on a stoic face, but a little checked out.
Looking forward to more of that next year! Hopefully it comes across how much I love all watching my team dominate and don't give one shit about competitive balance.

Re: this is a basketball thread
i'm excited to watch Isaiah Thomas flame out on the Cavs. he has the ultimate little man syndrome and it's incredibly grating. he's a 28 year old coming off a career year where he was far and away the main offensive option and now has a serious injury. he's 5' 9" and will never be able to play passable NBA defense, especially as he ages.
as far as i can tell, everyone rates him pretty reasonably now and yet all the talk is about how he is the greatest underdog story of all time. yes, he was the last draft pick. yes, he was undervalued during his early years in the league. yes, he was judged for his height rather than holistically and that's "unfair". he seems like a great man and a great teammate. but he's also an egomaniacal fuck.
nobody backin up the Brinks truck for him and that's the way it should be.
