Re: this is a basketball thread
I just watched a Steve Nash assist reel on NBA.com. I wasn’t watching basketball from about 2001-2010 so I missed this guys best years. Some truly amazing no look assists!
Basketball season doesn’t start for about a month but NBA2K19 comes out on 9/7. I will simulate the season and let you guys know who wins the finals!

Re: this is a basketball thread
I was just totally tuned out between 1999 and 2007 or so, really didn’t watch much basketball at all during a his time.
I don’t think I ever saw Tracy McGrady play, couldn’t tell you anything about him at all except I think he’s the guy who scored 13 points in 30 seconds or something. No idea about what really made him “good,” however.

chrondog wrote:I'm not a huge fan of Dunn or LaVine, but based on other people's evaluations they are considered strong talent. 16 to 7 is also a significant pick swap. If you think Butler is leaving in free agency, this is a decent haul.
However, because of the super-max extension I don't think it was a given Butler was leaving. This seems more like a GarPax ego move because they're sick of him. Further, I don't like the trade because I wouldn't be interested in building around LaVine and Dunn. I would've targeted a more established young player rather than "upside" guys who rarely pan out.
Further still, the move to sell the #35 pick to Golden State (thank you GarPax!) shows just how unserious Bulls ownership is about rebuilding. That move casts the Butler trade in a different light: it's not that they were afraid Butler would walk, they were afraid he wouldn't walk and they'd have to super-max him. In that context, what's even the point of caring about the details? The ownership group is self-defeating as we all know.
That all being said, I also think Wiggins and Butler are fairly redundant as ball-dominant wings. The expectations for Minnesota will be sky high, but I expect them to falter again. Their roster construction is not good, they have two guards who can't shoot, and KAT is not all-the-way there defensively. I project them missing the playoffs again.
This post wasn't 100% spot on, but I think it has aged extremely well.

as far as i can tell, everyone rates him pretty reasonably now and yet all the talk is about how he is the greatest underdog story of all time. yes, he was the last draft pick. yes, he was undervalued during his early years in the league. yes, he was judged for his height rather than holistically and that's "unfair". he seems like a great man and a great teammate. but he's also an egomaniacal fuck.
nobody backin up the Brinks truck for him and that's the way it should be.

This was pretty wrong, so good on Mirotic for not being bad on the Pelicans!

Re: this is a basketball thread
I never really liked Butler that much. I respect the fact that he is dedicated to his craft and has transformed himself from a rotation player and defensive specialist into one of the fifteen best players in the entire league. His career arc is really impressive. But he seems to have a really horrible personality (there are also allegations of rape from his time at Marquette, which obviously goes far beyond just a bad personality...) and this thing everyone keeps saying about Jimmy "just wanting to win" is dumb.
The Wolves need to get rid of Thibs and it was really stupid that they gave him as much control over the team, roster, and overall direction of the franchise as they did. I really hope Jimmy gets traded to a Western Conference team (Rockets) because I want to see KAT dunk all over him so bad.

Did Curry just make a 3/4-court shot milliseconds after the buzzer befor halftime? They're not even mentioning it and just going to commercial.

Re: this is a basketball thread
This is weirding me out now because I also can't find any mention of it... From what I remember, this was something that started coming out about four or five years ago. I asked my old college roommate if he remembered hearing about these allegations and he did. I am like 99% sure that this isn't just some random hallucination of mine.BGwaves wrote:Where can you find info on the allegations? With about 30 seconds left in the first half, the Bulls are down 90-50 to the Warriors.

Looks like the record is 107... I was nervous GS was gonna set a record on our ass. Althoguh, as I type, I received a notification that Klay set a record with 10 first half 3s. Jesus.

Re: this is a basketball thread
I guess this announcer has been a legend for a while (with the Lakers for years?) but I didn't know about him until this week.
This call is beautiful, the disappointment in his voice when he thinks the Pelicans are going to let the Nets run out the clock, the crisp intonation in the way he says "what a gift!" and pivots to "Can't advance it, let's see what the Pels can do" sounds like music to my ears. I want to watch this team just to listen to him.
