I was a huge sports fan when I was a kid. I collected hockey cards, played lots of NHL 94, and read about the Blackhawks games in the newspaper. But my family never had cable TV -- back then, all the games were on "Sports Channel" -- so I never saw a hockey game until I was like 20 or something.

Yeah, I wasn't able to watch hockey games regularly (apart from Olympic coverage and Fox's brief, grotesque flirtation with the league) until very recently.

yeah, my first experience w/ hockey was in 1992 for the olympics when Ray LeBlanc was the goalie for USA, and at the time he played for the minor league Indianapolis Ice. this made hockey briefly popular in indianapolis for about a year. we did have a HS team that i watched a few times, and then when i arrived in chicago in '97 the Wolves definitely had a larger presence in the suburbs than the Blackhawks did. Wirtz was a moron.
