I saw this and have been thinking about how to reply... saw a few nit picks in that article on first glance where I was in strong disagreement, but longer answer fourthcoming. There’s some sketchiness afoot here with this Kelly story, but he’s still a guy who’s kid got killed in a war. I am volunteering at the county level by tutoring adults in English. If anyone in DuPage County is interested, let me know. It's is very meaningful to me because neither of my maternal grandparents were ever able to fully grasp the English language after moving here in their 40s because of work and family obligations. It is one of my grandmother's biggest regrets. It's also just a lot of fun and only takes like four hours/week (about two hours to create a lesson plan and then a two hour session each week). Most of the people are Spanish-speaking (75%) and most are low-income. The program has a lot of success stories and the statistical outcomes are pretty remarkable.
I was also attending some precinct meetings for Democratic Party organizers, but that fell through because they were super unorganized and I got busy with work. Now that Pawar dropped out of the governor's race, I really want to get involved in the Daniel Biss primary campaign.
I'm really eager to see who the Democratic challenger will be for IL-6. I fucking detest Roskam and will personally knock on every door in the district this summer if I fucking have to.

serving in the military and experiencing the loss of a loved one in combat have literally nothing to do with your value as a person. it's patriotic mumbo jumbo to put soldiers on a pedestal.

Agreed. Definitely sucks (at least in my opinion) that the dude lost his son for no good reason, but that's all it means. My grandfather died, one time. Doesn't mean I haven't said, done, thought or whatevered my share of terrible stuff.

Brett Talley, who Trump nominated to the position in September, is married to Ann Donaldson, the chief of staff to the White House counsel. Talley did not include this information on a Senate questionnaire when asked about conflicts of interest, The New York Times reported.
Talley, who at 36 has only practiced law for three years, was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee despite having never tried a case.
Talley was the fourth of Trump’s judicial nominees to be deemed unqualified by the American Bar Association. The Senate could vote on Talley’s nomination as early as Monday.
