This album changed my way of looking at what could be music but also how music can come about. I think because Jeremy Boyle went to UIC a few years before me the spirit of deconstructing music as a process to create new forms was all over the place. I heard William Basinski for the first time in my Sound Design 1 class for instance. This album using the glitch as it’s center piece was so revolutionary at the time for me. The process is old now so the idea might seem quaint but this album has a deep emotional quality that is timeless.
Have you listened to dok?
It came out a few years after Systemisch and 94diskont but before the "noisy" Ovalprocess era. No one ever talks about it but it's taken me to some deep places over the years!

Re: Selected Ambient Works, a Thread
I would like to talk about Japanese ambient music with people who aren’t twats, that means all of you.
Some people here have actually lived in Japan. When you hear this music, does it sound “Japanese” to you?
I also enjoy Hiroshi Yoshimura’s Green, strange circumstances around his music and how they could have been ignored or unheard for so long. Etc

This thread is brilliant.
Undo, have you listened to Deepchord? It's techno, but so minimal, soft, and unobtrusive it fits right into my Work playlist which consists of tracks by artists already mentioned in this thread.

I like some of his stuff including the track you posted.
Actually, the album you posted is probably the best thing I've heard from him or at least the most listenable to my ears.

Very much so, yes. It's all very much (at least to me) a part of "that aesthetic." I don't know that it sounds as much like Japan as, say, Neu sounds like Germany, but it's definitely there.

Re: Selected Ambient Works, a Thread
Ethernet makes music which I can only describe as ambient drone that makes the inside of my ears feel really good.
144 Pulsations of Light was released 8 years ago and it's one of those mellow and complex and deep albums that's easy to get lost in (whatever you think that means, probably).
Outside of Time was one of my favorite albums of 2016.
He sometimes makes dub techno under this name and some other aliases but I prefer his more ambient music to it a lot because I think it just has more character to it. He just released a live recording that sounds like a bridge between the two and if that sounds good then you might like it.

An absolute favorite song slowed to 1/5 the speed or so turns out to be eerie and really spectacular all at the same time.

That's awesome! I'm going to see Gas at the Art Institute of Chicago at the end of the month, but I don't think that either Bing or Ruth will be there. I hope to be wrong, though.

The Mrs and I have tickets for this too. Can't wait.
