Thanks for that list chrono, I may check some of those episodes, am not sure if I've listened to them all. Btw, the second half of the dark web episode has audio of some sick child killer from Australia. I could not listen to it at all.

Of course! For as much as I complain about the program, I still greatly enjoy it. It really shows the importance of production values in storytelling.

My favorite murder: I like these women, but their Schlick wears on me often. Two smart and funny women talking mirders. I like the hometown murder episodes where fans write in their real life hometown true crime tales.
My girlfriend loves these podcasts so I hear a lot of them incidentally around the house and you really nailed these ones. I went with her to see a live MFM show. It was like 45 minutes long and they were basically just reading Wikipedia entries to a packed house. Pretty much carried it by force of personality. Amazing monetization of something that I wouldn't have guessed would have an actual audience.

Every time I try to listen to Welcome to Nighvale I fall right asleep. Is that the appeal of this program?

I'd highly recommend today's WTF. Marilyn Manson gives Maron a highly entertaining interview.

No it was recorded a few weeks ago so prior to that.
He does slowly get drunk during the interview and hardly makes sense by the end. But still manages a spot on David Lynch impression right before leaving.

I started listening to Dirty John the other day at work because I was fucking bored of my co-worker's conversation and needed some distraction from the mundane task I was doing. I usually hate shit like this, and this shit is no different, but I'm hooked now.

Jeff Bridges must be a super chill guy. To take an interview with Bill Simmons & the first thing BS says is, "I have this trick I do with my guests. I go through their IMDB page and talk about their career."
Bridges had to be thinking "Oh you mean just like every other Marc Maron Blue Apron Casper Mattress shilling mother fucker with a podcast?"

Yeah, I'm obviously not all that familiar but I remember thinking that I probably only made it all the way through his first Nathan Fielder interview because Nathan For You seemed so novel to me at the time. Seemed like a dull host

Re: Podcasts
Been listening to a lot of podcasts lately to stave off total boredom at work. I listened to the entire Dirty John podcast. As a real life soap opera crime thriller it's fine, but I really don't like that kind of thing and wouldn't recommend listening to this. The story is pretty remarkable though.
Now I'm listening to the second season of Serial.

there are only 3 episodes so far, but i've enjoyed what i've heard from "On Margins". the throughline on each is that it's about making books, but the 3 guests have all been really great. lots on the creative process and inspiration and 'why bother doing this'.

Andy Kindlers podcast Thought Spiral is pretty funny. It's a bit rambleing, hence the title, but once you listen to a few you get the idea. It's not too different from Hollywood Handbook but maybe for a slightly older crowd. Gets better after the first few episodes where they were clearly figuring things out.

Steven Hyden’s Celebration Rock podcast is doing a series on Springsteen’s 20th Century releases.
The first 2 went up this week and are pretty good listens. My tastes don’t always align with his but I still have always enjoyed his pod.
The second episode focuses on Born to Run and is guest co-hosted by some dude named Jeff Rosenstock. Never heard of him prior to this. He drops F Bombs throughout and Steven has to constantly reign him in.

I’ve become a big fan of Your Favorite Band Sucks. It is usually 25-40 minutes of over the top criticism of a band and the band’s fans.
The Fleetwood Mac episode this week was hilarious. They took down Sublime a few weeks ago and Sublime fans did not like that.

this was fantastic. as with all of these "Serial" type podcasts there are some annoying aspects in the story construction and the narrator's POV, but this was really well done. for those that don't know, it's a serialized investigation of the Jacob Wetterling abduction in Minnesota. it also dives a bit into the history of sex offender registries. if you like true crime, i would call it a must listen.
Season 2 of this podcast is the best podcast I've heard in 2018.

Absolutely essential listening imo. Goes in depth into how this small Mississippi town had been railroading this black man for 20+ years. So well done and completely lacks sensationalism, almost to a fault.

Re: Podcasts
I think listening to sped up podcasts is such a bastardized way to enjoy that content. I think for people that consume podcasts out of professional necessity and need to consume a huge amount of content quickly, sure. If you're listening in a leisure sense, it totally changes up the flow of the pod and the cadence of all the speakers. It's not the same program at all anymore.
Space and timing are the best part of the audio medium for me, I don't like to compromise that. Sped up podcasts haven't worked for me.

Re: Podcasts
Doesn't impact my understanding, 1.3x is about perfect else I'd not have time to listen to what I want to, some people listen at 2.0x which is mental. No way that goes in.

Re: Podcasts
Jeff Tweedy gave a nice interview on WTF today. It was weird listening to him because I was really interested in the back and forth despite not listening to Wilco anymore. Maybe every couple years I spin AGIB but I’ve not heard anything from Wilco (The Album) through Schmilco.
I did have a stretch in the early 2000s where I obsessed over their catalog & know I was among those on the SOMB championing YHF as the greatest thing ever at the time.
Anyway I don’t know what I’m trying to say here other than even though I’m not a Wilco fan I respect Tweedy and found this interview strangely comforting to hear him talking about music, addiction & moving forward.
