Goddamn Paves. That's everything I could ever want to read.

Wanna do boarders like Jasper and I the biggest favor and make us a Prince mix? I was just lurking on your last.fm and noticed that U seem to be pretty familiar with the deeper cuts! If U made a mix similar to that "Nothing But The Peter Green Era Group's Best Shit Ever" I would be super grateful.

I've actually been wanting to dig way deeper and listen to his mammoth demos compilations and shit.

Since he died I've mostly been playing the b-sides comp, Lovesexy, The Black Album, and the Vanity 6 album, since I have a lot of the other '80s stuff on vinyl.  Except Dirty Mind, oddly, which was the first Prince album I heard.  I bought it at Borders when I was in eighth grade after listening to a Prince Sound Opinions special on Chicago's own WXRT, then sold the CD a couple years ago and never got around to upgrading it.

I might clear space on my hard drive and download mp3s of all the '80s Prince albums that I own, and possibly make a mix of some sort.  Although anyone would be better off just listening 2Sign o' The Times and 1999 and everything else from that period.

...if U end up doing this, let us know!

I'm sure U guys have already seen the footage of Prince at the SNL 40th anniversary after party. So funny. Fallon comes off like the giant douchebag that he probably is. My favorite part of the video though is when the camera pans into the audience and U catch a glimpse of Jim Carey's shit eating grin soaking it all in. Fantastic!

Excellent mix posted on FACT. Lotta weird versions I've never heard like his version of I Feel 4 U, an acoustic version of Kiss, and a few other gems. Plus a bunch of the hits U might expect.

This had to be the first Prince I ever saw/heard in my life:

There was a VHS tape in my house that had some Saturday Night Live music performances retrospective special hosted by Wayne and Garth, and it had a clip of this performance. Definitely recognized the song right away when I heard Dirty Mind much later.

My sister-in-law (former owner of The King Club in Madison where Clyde's band were in weekly residence) shared this on FB today. Thought U would dig it:

THIS IS WHAT MADE PRINCE TRULY GREAT

Of the many tributes to Prince which have poured onto Facebook and other social media, I like this one best. My friend Clyde Stubblefield, the "Funky Drummer" from James Brown's band and the guy whose drum samples fueled the world of rap music, was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2000. Clyde lives in Madison WI and, as is the case with many musicians, was without health insurance and facing massive medical bills with no way to pay them. No one knew this at the time, but Prince heard about the predicament of this music legend who he admired greatly and he stepped in to pay the entire $80,000 bill. Clyde's niece Angie says there was only one condition which came with it...neither Clyde nor his wife was allowed to reveal what Prince had done 4 them.
Now that Prince has passed, I'm glad Angie has told the story publicly. Prince leaves behind an impressive musical legacy...but it's his humanity which truly made a difference.

This D'Angelo performance of "Sometime It Snows In April" right now on Fallon is beautiful... Probably don't watch that unless U R in a place where U can safely cry 4 the next 15 minutes.

The only other artist that fully owned an entire decade is Bowie. 1979-1989 Prince is probably the best run of any artist ever. Period.

    ^ Truth.

Seeing Purple Rain in the theater in a few minutes. Was a hard choice what t shirt to wear... It was between the D'Angelo concert t and my Ween t shirt. Chose the latter, since the shirt is actually purple.

I did rewatch Purple Rain the other day and it's some damn timeless cinema!

Also jammed the Sign o' the Times concert film, which was so overblown and overproduced I kind of didn't know what to make of it. That 1982 live footage is preferable.

Watched a bunch of his interviews, too, with Larry King, Tavis Smiley, George Lopez, Scary Spice, and Arsenio. All the greats.

Gonna jam some Under the Cherry Moon tomorrow. I have high hopes 4 this oft-dismissed feature.

So I guess I say open the vault and let them shits out. I dunno. I just hope that this whole future vault/rights/release thing isn't a Hendrix-level disaster. It will certainly become a thing and be a disaster, mind U. I just hope that it's a comparatively minor one.

I assume the main reason 4 breaking into Prince’s vault was to search 4 a will. There is plenty of time to hire someone to comb through the recordings and start releasing posthumous albums in the months & years to come.
He was supposedly recording a new song every day. Even if only 10% of those were any good, that’s a ton of music to look forward to.

Yeah and opening the vault to take an inventory of assets is just good exercise of fiduciary responsibilities.
