Re: Dead Thread
I think as long as he was perpetually adding to it there's no way Prince was going to deal with all the shit in there. And no one else was, either, since he kept the code to himself. So drilling it open after Prince kicks the bucket is a logical step, despite also being ridiculous.
I just hope he wrote dates on almost everything.

Re: Dead Thread
“A revolutionary story of guitars, motorcycles, cell phones – and the music of a new generation” is how director Christopher Kirkley describes his West African re-imagining of Purple Rain. Set in the Saharan city of Agadez in Niger, Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai (Akounak 4 short) is a visually sumptuous and musically thrilling movie that works splendidly with or without the Purple Rain mythos. But riffing on Prince’s tale locates Purple Rain’s universal heartbeat.
The almost Germanic literalness of the title is brilliant. "Rain the Color of Blue with a Little Red in It."

I think I've spent like 50 bucks on touch tunes this month just flooding local jukeboxes with choice Prince cuts. Next up at The Wedge pizzeria, OK: many songs.

Re: Dead Thread
Particularly crushed by this one even though I've been preparing 4 it 4 quite a while, now. The music of Bernie Worrell has had a profound and immeasurable impact on my life and its funkiness. There hasn't been a single era of my life which wasn't in some way actively impacted by his vibe. That all-star Talking Heads lineup was my first not-The-Beatles favorite band. Devastated. RIP-Funk.

Re: Dead Thread
I went to C them back in like 2002 or something and I went to the wrong venue and watched some jazz improv shit instead.
I've probably told that story before and I hope no one remembers or that it's become some corny undo-ism but it likely has.

Re: Dead Thread
I didn't know he was born in the '30s. Sucks he's dead but it's also kind of cool that all the still living boomer classic rock legends R at least a few years younger than him. I doubt that very many other soon-to-be-dead old guys will make it as far as he did.

The Boss wrote:Over here on E Street, we R saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Vega, one of the great revolutionary voices in rock and roll. The bravery and passion he showed throughout his career was deeply influential to me. I was lucky enough to get to know Alan slightly and he was always a generous and sweet spirit. The blunt force power of his greatest music both with Suicide and on his solo records can still shock and inspire today. There was simply no one else remotely like him.

Not going to pretend that I was ever there 4 these guys or whatever but I love that they were pretty active over the last couple years.

Re: Dead Thread
Last night I was really looking forward to spending the day listening to a new A Tribe Called Quest album. Instead, I started my morning at work listening to Songs of Love and Hate. Went right back to that sad, dark place I've been since Tuesday.
