I never checked him out aside from the random song or two that probably showed up on some SOMB list, mp3s I have on my hard drive but have never imported into iTunes because I do not look forward to tagging hundreds of tracks to keep them listed as a single compilation.

He has nothing in common with Arthur Russell but these guys represent a huge musical blindspot for me that should be right up my alley but which I've never put the effort into patching.

I love Scott Walker and am so sad he’s gone. Sent a message to my bro like 2 days ago about him being my all time favorite singer and got a message back today alluding to his death, but it went right over my head. Only just realized he died. I’m feeling the exact opposite of this right now:

I just read a Guardian article about this. It's extremely embarrassing. However, the angle of the Guardian piece was that Moby should be mortified to even admit ever having gone out with a 19/20 year old girl while he was in his mid 30s.

I don't really think that's the part worth focusing on though. I mean, it's obviously unusual or whatever, but there is nothing wrong with a thirty year old dating a nineteen year old.

On the other hand, I think by that age (18) you can make your own decisions and live with your mistakes. I just don’t understand why he felt the need to actually name her without permission. Apparently, in the book, the situation is used as a catalyst to talk about his ‘partner anxieties’ or some shit. I feel like he could have brought the situation up without actually naming her and sorta let people figure it out if he couldn’t get her blessings to use the story. You can’t help but think he (i)is(/i) using the story to sell books with the way this thing is coming out in public. Trashy at best.

So assuming any romantic relationship actually did happen, which seems highly unlikely anyway, this is the problem and not her age. Sometimes in the coverage of these events people editorialize in a really problematic way. Chrono kind of talked about this during the Aziz situation. The problem in that situation was lack consent and abuse of power and not the act itself. I just think that's a really important point. I'm a really conservative/vanilla dude when it comes to sex, so I am not personally affected by any of this, but I think it's just really unfair.

The implicit assumption is that people who date younger women, or who like rough sex, or engage in S&M/bondage, are perverted and are somehow inherently dangerous or something.
