Listening to Blackstar over the weekend, I kept thinking this could be his farewell to us.

Trying to get through work. All I want to do is go home and listen to Bowie albums.

    "I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you!"

    RIP Bowie.

If part of Donald Trump's campaign to "Make America Great Again" was to find a way to make Neil and Bob immortal I would vote for him.

Glad I had at least a few days with this last album with nothing more to think about but how tremendous it is.

    Salut.

Every time I see that this thread has been bumped, a chill runs down my spine and I mentally prepare myself for what might lay on the other side of that link. But nothing could prepare me for this.

I wasn't ready for this (but when is anyone?) and didn't even know he was ill. All of the talk about the new album seemed to be "David Bowie goes jazz and it's good" and not "David Bowie says goodbye" like you'd think it would be if everyone knew?

Or maybe everyone was talking about that and I missed it.

I know Derogatis wasn't a fan but if he couldn't take the time to write something meaningful, he shouldn't have posted anything at all today. You have been a professional rock critic for several decades and you remember him most from... Flight of the Conchords?

Been into these things he did today:

    "Fascination"
    "Look Back in Anger"
    "Aladdin Sane"
    "Mass Production"

Young Americans sounding great right now.  I still love the muddy, coked out, "this isn't my album so whatever" vibes of The Idiot more than almost anything, and think that he could have broken "She Shook Me Cold" off into a whole separate sub-discography devoted to achieving only the highest levels of early '70s hard rock excellence.

I'd heard a bunch of his hits super early in my life.  Actually, the only things I ever played obsessively over and over later on were Low and the song "Letter to Hermione".  The catalog is certainly delivering today.

It is weird getting to read just published reviews of the new album containing no talk of his death.

Dave Grohl and Jack White are going to be the elder statesmen of all music and you all let this happen on your watch. I hope you're happy because there's nothing we can to stop it now.

Mrs. has Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture on the big screen, cranked way up. It's been a while.

    a few things

    - The "Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud / All The Young Dudes" medley is genius
    - Mick Ronson could make a fierce guitar-face
    - Hearing DB sing "I made some breakfast and coffee" always brings a smile.

I'll watch that after Cracked Actor.

Enjoying it now and the various '70s people who aren't Bowie all look terrible.

I was switching my bodyclock today because I came off shift this morning. Woke up at about 2 in the afternoon and the lyric "Where the fuck did Monday go?" was going round in my head and I didn't know where it came from (having only listened to Blackstar once, on Friday)

I googled it and the internet said David Bowie is dead.

The whole day since has felt really orchestrated...not in a bad way, in a very fitting way....like I'm in some kind of immersive performance piece about celebrity death.

I haven't processed this at all yet because I've been in classes literally all day. My roommate from last year has mono so he is just stuck inside indefinitely. I plan on going over to his place this weekend to spin a bunch of Bowie records and probably watch a few films (including maybe the Twin Peaks movie, which is such a funny cameo of his).

I got Low a couple summers ago on record so last year we would always spin that shit in the morning and just walk around drinking coffee. Those were great mornings.

I just read Brian Eno's remarks about Bowie's last e-mail to him... It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. Truly remarkable.

I thought about Dero after reading Kot's piece on BBC website. Without being rude, I think it's very unlikely that some of the artists he thinks are more important than Bowie are going to be celebrated and eulogised in this manner.

I showed my wife the videos to Blackstar and Lazarus last night without commentary beforehand and she said that it was amazing that no-one picked up on the lyrics and symbolism in the run up to yesterday.

Turning your own death into a work of art. Fuck.

The pictures of him in that great looking suit that are supposed to be the final ones that Iman had taken are so terrific. He's got a huge smile on his face, it's his birthday & Black Star had come out. Really wonder what he did throughout that day and what the conversations were like.

I imagine there was some heavy crying as his inner circle knew what the album arriving meant. But I also imagine Bowie laughing as he talked about what he was leaving for his fans and for the world to absorb once he died.
