You know what, FUCK these guys.

Total hypocrites that missed a great opportunity to do something really special.

It's about time that we stop idolizing these dudes and have an honest conversation about them.

I think we could all identify with the sentiment expressed by David Cross's character in the opening segment of this clip:

Do you guys think that Washington set a shitty precedent with his whole "don't be greedy, don't seek more than a couple of short terms" shit? Cause to my mind it seems like the length of office for these guys is too short. Fuckers always gotta be popular, never want to go for the gold. Maybe I'm just being naive but I feel like BO would go a lot harder if he knew he had 15 years with which to fuck some shit up.

I feel like BO never would have been elected because America would just be a smoking crater after 15 years of GWB.

You're basically describing a parliamentary system, Ned. Plenty of time to "go hard" and then the public kicks you out when you they get sick of your bullshit. There are cons too, of course.

I used to tell my high school civics teacher that I thought we should scrap the constitution and start over with a parliamentary system because winner-take-all and bicameralism was nonsense.

He would flip out and scream about how we "weren't like Europe" and "our institutions are what make us great".

The constitution is like the bible: an old book written by old dudes that doesn't really hold up for well-thinking modern life folk, but which continues to maintain relevance because people are too brainwashed and/or lazy to make improvements.

This is a poor analogy. The Constitution can be amended, and doesn't prevent the government from passing laws that "maintain relevance." It is by its very nature not dogma in the sense that the Bible is. And the scarcity of improvements was an intentional feature to prevent politicians from fucking it up with short-sighted and transitory changes.

Don't really see the point in defending America and not the Constitution. The presidential oath of office is worded that way for a reason.

I guess that was just a poor attempt to pigeonhole bible thumpers and constitution thumpers into a similar group of dimwits, by blatantly ignoring the differences between the two documents.
    Concedes point, withdraws rant.

As far as defending America first and foremost, I'll stand by that one. I like Cheeseburgers, nature and baseball. Don't really give a shit about the second amendment.
