I saw the Habs dealt Pacioretty to the Golden Knights... Is the hype real in Toronto? Is this the year for the Maple Leafs?

The Whalers not existing in the NHL is a god damned travesty. Fuck, those jerseys kill it. That post was life affirming.
I guess the Hawks have scored some goals so far, which seems good. Go 2018/19.

Wait how the hell did we get Cam Ward? I know he’s “old,” and as I recall he’s taken a downslide in the past decade or so, but still... Cam Ward.
Just looked at the roster for the first time and liking what’s going on at center and with the forwards in general. Still seems like we’re light on D. I sometimes envy people who live in cities where their sports teams play or who have a habit of watching live television. Which is basically my way of saying that I’m still rooting hard for the Hawks and probably won’t watch a game all year unless I find myself in Chicago hanging with my dad.

Stan fields a horseshit team and Q goes down. Chicago sports gonna do what Chicago sports gonna do. Best of luck to the poor kid left coaching this mess and dealing with a fanbase who'll assuredly be out for his blood from now till whenever the front office makes a big name hire of a dude who'll probably be worse than the new guy.

I watched most of that Winter Classic game at Notre Dame's stadium and it reminded me how much fun this sport is to watch. I really do miss it. I've decided to abandon my interest in the NBA because I just find it really stale and boring lately. Plus a lot of the personalities around the league that I used to find interesting (Zach Lowe) have just gotten a bit tiring.
I developed a legitimate emotional investment in those Blackhawks teams when I was in college. One of the most crushing defeats I have ever experienced was the OT loss in the Western Conference Finals to the LA Kings. But I always felt like a bandwagon fan. Part of me wants to get in on the ground floor of this rebuild, but I also still have an affinity for the Habs and it would be fun to start following them again because it would provide a bunch of opportunities to practice my French. Plus they haven't been in a Stanley Cup Final in more than twenty years now, so I could develop an organic interest in the team without feeling like a total shithead.
Reuben, are you still following hockey? I know that the Senators are basically the worst team in the league now and are a franchise basically without hope... What is the best way to follow this sport? Are there any concise weekly podcasts or something like that?

I don't anticipate ever getting over this series. I still think about it regularly.

I watched the third period of a Habs game last night. They won. It was cool.

Reading on and/or paying attention to sports over a period of 5-10 years is a brutal, unsparing, sped-up metaphor for life if ever I have seen one. I don’t know... maybe this is a reason that I’m so into sports.
Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook were franchise saviors a decade ago. They were hall of fame worthy cup winners 5 years ago. They are washed up has beens, ready to be put out to pasture now. Perhaps they have a future as over the hill broadcasters, but it’s unlikely. Either way, us fans are thankful for all the memories. They are both younger than I am.
We’re all gonna be dead so soon.

WP, I missed your question earlier. Sorry bro
I don't watch hockey anymore. I am boycotting this team and league until they stop putting garbage on the ice or Melnyk sells.
I sat behind Jimmy Howard's mom on a plane a few days ago and I couldn't even bring myself to pretend to care about this sport so we just talked about grandkids.

I hope that both of these teams find a way to lose, so I'm going to wind up disappointed regardless of how this one plays out. But I'm still grateful for a game 7. This is the real shit. I hope it's a good one.

Might anyone be willing to copy/paste this article behind a spoiler tag or something? I don't read enough sports journalism these days to warrant paying the subscription fee for The Athletic but I want to see this list.
What is the likelihood that the league is rigging the draft to give the Habs the first overall pick so they can draft Lafrenière (the best French-Canadian prospect in decades). I mean, c'mon, the first overall pick just happens to go to one of the play-in teams. It's also worth considering that the draft was supposed to take place in Montreal prior to the Covid outbreak. If they do end up with the first overall pick, I obviously won't complain. But it would be really dubious. It is reminiscent of the Derrick Rose pick to the Bulls.

I kind of made that post in jest because I figured that I was the last person to hear about it and that it would be the only thing NHL thing that anyone would be talking about at all right now. But the only place I could think of to confirm this (Reddit, fake Deadspin) showed no mention of it at all! So then,
