the first time I realised that our nation has an unhealthy relationship with that drink was when I saw my brother get hit by a car right outside our house when I was 9. I was frantically urging my nan to call for an ambulance as me and a neighbour tried to get him off the road but my nan's first instinct was to put the kettle on.

she took quite some convincing that alerting the emergency services was a higher priority than making him a hot milky beverage.

I mean, tea is terrible unless you're sick or you need something hot to drink and it's too late for coffee. But it would be a travesty if English people stopped liking the stuff.

Sounds like you've just had bad tea. Proper loose leaf tea is just as worthy of the serious attention quality coffee gets.

TBH you probably can't get good tea without traveling a ways from where you live. Even in major cities there's usually only a few places that sell really good stuff.

Going to an actual tea party next weekend where the invite strictly stipulates what kinds of tea the host will or will not allow.

Can't comment one way or other on the British style of afternoon tea with milk/sugar/biscuits.

Guh, ya just KNEW Raj would be pro tea.

Can't stress enough the difference between fannings (what you get in almost all tea bags) and proper tea.
