Sometimes I wonder if this is the purest commercially produced music:

I've never been able to get into Slowdive, maybe their albums are really good but they've always seemed to fall into a really vague territory in between a lot of stuff that I like but never really do any of those things in a way that grabs my attention or makes me feel much of anything at all.

I thought this was really good and have been listening to it all morning. Did they do more stuff like this?

that is more or less what most of their songs sound like.

I would start with their first EP, and go from there I guess.

I guess I can go on living without it then.

Woke up really early today. Been doing some light work with my headphones on totally immersed in this record:

When I tried getting into their discography, I just ended up not wanting to hear the first two albums ever again, but Pygmalion became the ultimate lonely late night walking/train riding soundtrack.  It's mostly just the one guy fucking around with loops and shit since he was hanging out with Seefeel or whatever.  I would usually listen to the album for "Rutti" and "Blue Skied An' Clear," but the whole thing sounded cool and kind of reminded me of things like Hex, Laughing Stock, and Chill Out, which are all way better.

I think I might listen to it.

And "Blue Skied An' Clear" is definitely one of the few songs that made Slowdive worth anything at all. That album's pretty good, but I don't think it's any classic.

A long time ago I downloaded a multi-disc bootleg of all the stuff that's on the box set. So I might actually listen to that at some point. Maybe.

I've been listening to so much Gil Scott-Heron lately. It's impossible to be cold when you're walking around and "The Bottle" is banging through your cerebral.

I got really obsessed with '80s Butthole Surfers recently.  Really love all that music and also the live video Blind Eye Sees All that has the footage of them all being interviewed in bed.  American art doesn't get much more interesting and inspiring than Gibby Haynes and Paul Leary being college-educated guys with promising careers throwing it all away to start that band and make albums like Rembrandt Pussyhorse.  Basically they starved and lived in squalor while making music that they considered to be a total joke, and then eventually "made it," somehow.

Pyschic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac is probably the one I'd call my favorite.  "Negro Observer" sounds like they tried to make an R.E.M./new wave parody with a purposely awful title and inane lyrics but then accidentally wrote a super creative, catchy pop song.  And of course "Cherub" and "Lady Sniff" are masterpieces.

    Great band, IMO!

i went into one of their original/previous member's house in Austin a few years ago during SXSW. I guess he's an artist now or whatever. All I remember is he made art out of trash and his place smelled like cat shit. I basically was terrified that he was gonna hack me and my friend to death the entire time I was there.
