did you see that story about the ?asian? man who put a live eel up his asshole, then it ate through his intestinal wall and was trying to escape the inside of his body? man. fuckin' porn will make people do stupid shit.

Seems to me that that particular story is a solid reason to keep on truckin'.

This Boston Marathon story has me depressed.

it gets worse

People whose entire lifestyle revolved around the release of running permanently injured. 8 year old little kid dead. Fucking awful stuff.

I almost started crying when I heard that the families of the Sandy Hook victims had been invited to sit in the VIP section at the end of the marathon. Thankfully all were unhurt.

More deadened with each ensuing, unthinkable, horrific tragedy. I can't be shocked anymore. The worst of humanity just keeps getting worse. Well done you sick fucks. Bar lowered yet again.

As much as the bomber makes me want to give up, the people rushing in to help more than makes up for that.
I don’t just mean the cops. Those guys signed on face danger.
The regular people rushing in to help their fellow man. The person who sees someone bleeding on the ground and rushes to them. These people aren’t putting on rubber gloves. They did not think of their own safety. They just dove in to help people who were hurting.
Nothing but respect for those folks.

I don't know if it's true or not but yesterday I heard about runners finishing the race and heading straight off to give blood.

I just heard the video shows one of those brothers putting his backpack down right next to the 8 year old boy and that makes me want to grab the gurney.

I think you guys will agree with me that this insta-speculative culture is not just wrong but it is actually harmful. This keeps happening after every one of these tragedies (Not commenting on you Waylon, but the wider media).

I don't want to grab the gurney because I don't think vigilante sentiments are valuable and I don't support the death penalty anymore

people have a right to feel how they feel though

I've come to accept that you can no longer judge people by their reaction to tragedy. Social media just brings out the worst in people and you kind of have to ignore 98% of it.

Sometimes vigilante sentiments are just democracy at work.

I unfortunately share Ned's sentiments. I have a suite mate as well as another friend at DePaul who are from Boston. The first thing I did was ask them if anyone they knew was directly affected and told them my thoughts were with their families and their city.

Aside from that, I felt very little. I watched the explosions probably 1,000 times now. My eyes have been glued to the television more than I would like to admit. I try not to treat this as something that is entertaining and stimulating, which I think all this instantaneous 24/7 news coverage tends to bring out in people.

As someone who now lives in an urban environment and attends a university this is obviously extremely scary. Everything about this is very fucked.

As I have been reading and hearing about the backgrounds of the individuals involved it is jarring to hear about their Chechen and by extension their Muslim background. The most recent news I saw was an interview of the suspects uncle done by CBS News.

The slain suspect apparently called the uncle last night and asked for forgiveness over a 2-year long family feud and fall out. The suspect also applauded his uncle for being strong in his Muslim faith. This is going to be the story that everyone is going to gravitate towards as more information about their background gets uncovered. It's unfortunate that this shit keeps popping into the conscious of Americans and forces many of us to falsely live in fear of a religion that preaches, above all else, love, tolerance, and forgiveness.
