I'm listening to Giant Steps by the Boo Radleys right now and it's hitting the spot super hard.

Wooden Shjips are one of the best bands. They don’t put out as much as some of the other titans of psych (ty, oh sees, king gizzard) but I think their albums are better in a lot of ways. Just finished listening to V from last year and that is a great road trip album. They ride a Motorik groove that is closer to ‘sweet jane’ than Neu! I love the extreme phaser effect they use on every song, just adds to that take off and go vibe throughout. I’m listening to Back to Land currently and the phase on Ghouls is so extreme it rides almost the whole verse. Maybe does two full cycles at the most, I love that. These songs aren’t the most memorable lyrically but the grooves and riffs stick with me long after listening. These guys are sorta like the dad rock version of psych too. A lot more mellowed but with a musical wisdom that comes from years of playing and listening. The extra instrumentation that flows along the edges of the tracks add so much after a few listens. I would even throw them in a category with Parquet Courts, masters of their particular sound. I think I’m gonna listen to West next.

I don't know what's more surprising, that this respectably charted in the US or that (for the most part) it really didn't in Europe.

Been chilling the fuck out to this at night. It’s a mind melting journey. Weird throat singing, reverbed  flute, and corny “shamanic” drumming. And Steve Roach doing his synth wizardry. Yes I’m high and yes I love it.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been straight obsessed with an album. I heard this years ago and liked it but never got too attached. I like the acoustic parts, it’s a real twist of the soft and loud. Bardo Pond are so weird. Kind of ugly and beautiful at the same time. I sometimes listen to them and wonder how truly talented are they as musicians at all? Like do the guitarists know what a major scale is? Are they druids? they wrestle some strange sounds from their instruments, and are so unique that I just am fascinated.

I’m listening to Foxygen for the first time. Decided to give them a shot after purposely ignoring them forever. At the time, 2013, I think I was tired of being told who the next big ‘psych’ band was gonna be and these guys just happened to be in my crosshair. I’m actually enjoying it a lot more then I expected! It reminds me of Love and Rain Parade. Very west coast. Sorta reminds me of the Fresh and Onlys too which was also a band around 2013 too, right? It’s new when you hear it I guess, right? I’d recommend this if you want a mellow buzz. It’s the sound of wearing a flower crown Snap filter.

Thanks, Ned, for reminding me of Moodymann and how great he is. Is Moodymann the D'Angelo of Deep House? Honest question. My referents - historical, sociopolitical, and plain musical - are super limited for this type of music.

I also associate Drexciya with Moodyman and I think that's mostly Bruegel's fault. Is there an actual association here or is it just time and place in deep LoPPdom? One more Q: is there anything in the Drexciya discog as good as this Moodymann album?

Crazy to think that the UK version of this album doesn't end with this track, that we got it in the US even though we never deserved it or appreciated it.

Shellac has a new record with 2 different Peel sessions. Undo, If you enjoyed Live at Action Park you would probably enjoy these versions. If any of you guys enjoyed shellac at any point you’d probably enjoy this record

The crow remains one of my favorite songs. I was driving down i90 after a long ass day today and when the rhythm switched gears to forward momentum I jammed down hard on the pedal and started blowing by everyone. I had goose bumps and the biggest smile. The good thing is, even at 3:30pm, i90 is dead. Shellac, me, and open road.
