I want to get some speakers and a good record player. I’d also like to have the option of pluggin in an iPod or having a wireless connection to computers with songs and internets. So like... I want multiple sources to be able to play over this sound system. Starting totally from scratch.
    I want a
    Turntable
    Speakers
“Center console” thing? Like where I can tell it to play a cd, an aux cable, or a... connected by Bluetooth thing?
Amp? I don’t know what this even is.

Somebody tell me like 5-10 things to buy. I guess this thread is dumb and I should just go to Best Buy or some nonsense. I’ve probably started this same thread at least three times since 2013.

Like, if somebody just says, “this is the setup I’d like, buy these 5 things” I might just do that now.

Yeah the building part is easy. It’s placement in the room that’s hard.

It’s not though! That is, if you’re like me and know nothing about sound or electronics or setup.

This turntable looks classy, has good reviews, and has a “built in pre-amp.” Is that a good thing?

    Bought this.
Now what else should I get so I can play records and maybe even plug an iPod or computer into the system and play those too?

Sounds like you need a stereo receiver that has Bluetooth for wireless connection to your Bluetooth-ready devices (phone/iPod, maybe even your PC/laptop).

    Right?

Yes, this would be preferable. I’d love to be able to hook a system up to that turntable directly, but also have it communicate with wireless devices.

I’ll leave it to someone else to recommend a specific model or whatever, obviously there’s gonna be a big difference depending on your budget and how much power you want it to have, etc

Yeah, I’ll prolly just go to Best Buy and first person wearing a blue polo shirt that responds positively to my Bruce Mculloch questions (you like George Thorogood?) gets the job of telling me what shit to buy.

This is the first time I've listened to vinyl records in a "turntable" while sitting in a comfortable space that I enjoy spending time in.

Build me a sound system Resize32

I don't know if I have a "sound system" or not.

The lights are out and I'm sitting in a chair I purchased from IKEA about 2 years ago (not shown but off to the right).

This is a space just off the kitchen that's always been a total dead zone for actually living in, at last I'm trying to change that so stay tuned

Ended up saving $ for the time being and just plugging that rad fluance turntable into my old speakers that are perfectly functional but less than mind blowing.

Doing this right now as I finish a paper tentatively titled “Jimmy Carter: History’s greatest monster,” and I gotta say, it’s not a bad life.

*specifically about how an experienced helicopter pilot could crash into a parked plane like that, the average person would definitely think "just fly straight up for a couple hundred feet and THEN go into the direction you want to go, how hard could it be?" Those are definitely thoughts I have but I don't know shit.

These are my speakers, which seemed widely touted as the best speakers for the money when I bought them a couple years ago. Not sure if I've ever noticed a big improvement over the speakers they were replacing but they're... fine, I guess?

I haven't watched this movie, but would definitely like to. Unfortunately, I don't got much beyond what you've probably assumed already. I was a backseat guy by trade, and in fixed wing a/c not helos... so I'm barely talking insider baseball here. But whenever a wtf crash occurs I remind myself that you never know what was going on in that cockpit. People are finicky animals, and even experts have bad days.

Anyway, it'd serve me well to watch that thing. I don't know much about the Iran Hostage crisis. I just picked the topic for an excuse to quote the Simpsons in an academic assignment.

I left this window open a week or two ago and a lot of rain came blasting in all over my stuff. Turntable was closed and there were no records around at the time but a lot of water got on my portable CD player and my stereo receiver and I don't have proof but it's possible a lot of water might have gotten INSIDE on of my speakers because they have a big hole on the back (for acoustics but I don't quite know what to call it) facing the window. I unplugged everything and dried everything off but I certainly didn't attempt to open the speaker up or anything, not yet anyway.

Anyhow I just got a totally new chair so this space really needs to change.

I am so glad I don't have that huge plant anymore but I hope it's living it's life out there in a better place than I could ever create for it.

I still need to get a turntable, I'm not happy with the one I have, but there's always excuses, real or not so real idk, to hold off on that for a bit

The only recommendation that I’d have when you reconfigure is move the speakers further apart and angle them towards your chair. Your chair should preferably be about 15-20 feet away from the wall where they’re positioned. The angle is important because it helps the sound bounce around the room better. When you have speakers straight on the waves just bounce back and forth.
