For those who don’t have cable, The Last Dance will be coming to Netflix today.

Re: this is a basketball thread
Is this really on Netflix for US viewers?
https://www.cnet.com/how-to/the-last-dance-michael-jordan-documentary-start-time-episode-schedule-how-to-watch-without-cable/
Also, is it on ESPN+ or just "regular" ESPN?
https://www.cnet.com/how-to/the-last-dance-michael-jordan-documentary-start-time-episode-schedule-how-to-watch-without-cable/
The highly anticipated saga was originally scheduled to debut in June around the time of the NBA Finals, but with sports and everything else at a standstill due to coronavirus, ESPN moved up its release. Two episodes will air each Sunday evening, from April 19 to May 17. The Last Dance will be shown on ESPN for US viewers and Netflix for those outside the US.

Damn, you’re right. I read on ESPN this morning and on the schedule it says outside the US in parenthesis and I guess I overlooked it... sorry y’all!

Yeah, this is pure joy.
That 1984 interview where Bobby Knight calls him “the best basketball player that I’ve ever seen.”

1992 interview
I've often wondered if he ever got over this. Time and time again, the thing about MJ that everyone always says is that if you tell him he can't do something, he would go out of his way to do it just to prove you wrong. Surely someone tried this on him with swimming?
PLAYBOY: You had a bad experience with swimming when you were a kid, didn't you?
JORDAN: I went swimming with a close friend one day, and we were out wading and riding the waves coming in. The current was so strong it took him under and he locked up on me. It's called the death lock, when they know they're in trouble and about to die. I almost had to break his hand. He was gonna take me with him.
PLAYBOY: Did you save him?
JORDAN: No, he died. I don't go into the water anymore.
PLAYBOY: How old were you?
JORDAN: I was really young. About seven or eight years old. Now I ain't going near the water. I can't swim and I ain't messing with the water.
PLAYBOY: Even when you go on a boat?
JORDAN: Not without a life jacket, I won't. Not a little boat, either. It has to be a big boat for me.
PLAYBOY: It doesn't bother you to say that, does it?
JORDAN: No. I don't give a damn. Everybody's got a phobia for something. I do not mess with water.

Re: this is a basketball thread
I'd never even heard of this guy before. How is this possible?
Like, I have vivid memories of 4th/5th-tier 90s players like Chuck Person, Brad Daugherty, Rony Seikaly, Tom Gugliotta or Danning Manning. But somehow this guy just slipped through the cracks?
Looking back at their record, the Celtics were a terrible team in the early/mid 90s so I guess that probably explains it.

Is The Last Dance going to be good when I eventually watch it? (I ought to be able to subscribe to ESPN Plus for $5 and watch it all there?)

Oh damn I'm now older than every player that will be on a roster next season. I think.

Quick, pick one. You have ten seconds to decide:
- Spoiler:
- Dominique Wilkins
Clyde Drexler

The montage sequence with Step Into a World (Rapture) has been stuck in my head since it aired. Gave me chills.

I picked Wilkins both because I think he was better and because I have fond memories of a honey nut Cheerios commercial from my childhood where the bee got super excited and was like, “hey, it’s Dominique Wilkins!!!” and I know that’s a weird thing to remember and care about, but here we are.

Basketball has been decent to watch, tbh. I’m certainly not as invested in this season as I was pre-covid but it’s still a nice way to spend a few hours on a Sunday.

I've only watched the 9-minute condensed games so far. I don't have cable, was thinking about getting Sling come playoff time (assuming there's a TNT/ESPN package) but that time is pretty much now so...

Re: this is a basketball thread
The NBA has been hard to watch the last five years or so. I was an Uber fan for my whole life until then: now it's painful to watch disinterested people play for money.
I still watch the Bulls a little bit and if they got good I would probably tune in, but other than that I tune in now at about Game 3 of the FINALS and watch about 20 minutes of the remaining games attentively. It's sad, because I used to watch every round back in the day, and every big matchup all season long in prep for the huge playoff matchups.
Now, it's one big shitty all star game IMO. I'm surprised when I see good ratings the game is so bad now. I think people just tune in and use their phones for facebook while the game is on.
