Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Those aren't sound comparisons. Sorry if this was unclear - I feel similarly when I listen to DR & 5EPs, but that doesn't mean they sound anything at all alike.chicken invaders wrote:those are some rather lofty comparisons that I don't much agree with, but I hear what you're saying in general about Dream River. it seems a bit of a tough nut to crack.Michael K. wrote:Dream River. Sort of unknowable and completely intriguing to me right now. Apocalypse was an easy album to like, but I can't so easily cotton to DR. I don't think I really get it - the songs seem shrouded, still amorphous when I'm listening to and recalling them - but it's pretty much all I'm listening to. Excellent opener/closer combo - I know that much - but I couldn't really tell you anything else about the album. Doesn't feel that different from how I first felt listening to things like Mark Hollis & The 5 EPs.
"Summer Painter" is one for the ages though, I do know that.

ah no I get it, I didn't think you meant it actually sounded similar to either of those albums, but still. those are both singular masterpieces, where this I think is more of just another solid addition to the Bill Callahan catalog, as much as I am enjoying it.Michael K. wrote:Those aren't sound comparisons. new album from The Field is less than $3.00 on Amazon, at least here in the US, for anyone who cares.

Yeah, I agree w/ that too. They're just similarly opaque on first few listens, that's all.chicken invaders wrote:ah no I get it, I didn't think you meant it actually sounded similar to either of those albums, but still. those are both singular masterpieces, where this I think is more of just another solid addition to the Bill Callahan catalog, as much as I am enjoying it.Michael K. wrote:Those aren't sound comparisons. ^^^yeah. first I listened to Oneohtrix and I was kinda sorta blown away. In the end I suspect it might end up being a bit too brainy for my tastes, but it's absolutely gorgeous in a number of places.

OPN is not grabbing me at all but i haven't given it much of a shot. sounds like he's taking a different approach to "far side virtual" kind of shit and that doesn't really appeal to me

i'm obviously just a disgusting fetishist because an album called Double Cup by someone named DJ Rashad sounds madly appealing

Yeah, that Fuzz album is great. Dj rashad eps were great so can imagine that album will be good. Anyone else check out that machinedrum?

Crushing hard on Haim right now even though they're basically a female Vampire Weekend that idolized Wilson Phillips instead of Paul Simon.

dunno about machinedrum yet. I plan on checking it out sometime, rooms was good but I always lost interest by the second half.BGwaves wrote:Yeah, that Fuzz album is great. Dj rashad eps were great so can imagine that album will be good. Anyone else check out that machinedrum?
and yeah if you dig rashad's EPs there should be no way you won't love double cup.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Sort of. Not really a Wilson Phillips fan. Although I suppose we have to start comparing Haim to bands other than Fleetwood Mac. Any comparison to Vampire Weekend is troublesome, but if you take away the Ive League privilege, penises, and Paul Simon fetishism, what's left?Michael K. wrote:(guessing that description seems positive to someone like Yancy)
