Is it better than the last few? And also the Wild Flag album (had a lot of okay songs and a few really bad ones, iirc).

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
I personally think The Woods is the best Sleater-Kinney album and one of the best albums of the 00s, so nope, I don't think it's better than the last few.

Dawn Richard's Blackheart is pretty stupendous. Feel like if it was made by someone like Frank Ocean the Internet would be losing its mind over it.

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
I agree with Michael K. that the new Sleater-Kinney record ain't got shit on The Woods (or One Beat and a few other records of theirs), undo. But it's good. A fine little album and pretty much exactly what I think you'd expect. I've already played it a few times.

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
^agreed! I don't mean to disparage this new record - obviously - even if I don't consider it in the same league as The Woods. I do gather that maybe you, unod, didn't care for the last few S-K records much though? And if you didn't, maybe you'd like this one because it's made up of some pretty forward pop-type songs that remind me a little bit of Dig Me Out and The Hot Rock era Sleater-fucking-Kinney. Or maybe you did like the last few and intended, "Does this hold a candle to the last couple S-K records?" which, in case you're curious, it also does! Not a sharp drop off at all. Just a new Sleater-Kinney album that sounds like other Sleater-Kinney albums but also different because these are different songs and older people singing them, although them - being Sleater-Kinney - being older isn't necessarily subject matter of these new songs. Anyway, listen to it because it's a new Sleater-Kinney record and that band is more or less an indie rock institution and their albums are worth at least a single listen for the sake of you having at least a somewhat informed opinion at your next dinner party or brunch.

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
Infrequently, over here. Spent a week or two finding out that I still like the band, though, last summer. I listen to The Woods one or two times a year. I don't listen to One Beat that often, anymore, and I listen to the other albums, like, infinitely less than I did ten years ago. But "One More Hour" and a few other stand-out tracks still do get play. Probably always will.

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
I'll never forget the first time that I heard Dig Me Out because that was the day I almost blew my hand off playing with fireworks. It's my favorite Sleater-Kinney album but I guess I've only heard 3 of them.
They played snippets of this on NPR and I thought a lot of it sounded like Goo.

Last time I heard one of their albums, I'm pretty sure.
With a gun to my head I might very well call them the 100th best band of the 1990s. And mean it.

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
2015 is shaping up to be a good year if you're a fan of artists who have been around since the 90s. No Björk album has ever really sent me - Homogenic I like a lot and Medúlla I've listened to a bunch, but neither is a personal favorite and all her other albums are just there to me - but I had $7 in promotional Amazon credit for being a nice person and not caring if my prime items arrived in 2 days or 10 so I bought this album. Sounds like a Björk album.

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
Yea every time I have been listening to a Bjork album I am just like "This sounds like what I'd expect a Bjork album to sound like" and never pay it much mind.
This Viet Cong album is Ok. There is a good chance I'll revisit this a bunch in 2015.

The new Xibalba record, Tierra Y Libertad, is motherfucking unreal.
Utterly massive. Best recording of 2015. This is jawdropping.

He lost me after Kindred and I disliked Truant so much I haven't bothered downloading anything since. I love cheesy pop stuff as much as anything but his stuff is terrible these days.undo wrote:just downloaded a new Burial track and it's pretty good, whatever
LMK if this has changed and I'll give him another chance.

The thing about this track is that it definitely won't change anyone's opinion of Burial, whatever that opinion may be.

the new track is pretty boring for him, and I have my doubts how "new" it actually is.
It sounds like something from his first album,

Re: 2015 Musical Recordings
SoE must have a different version of his debut album. I don't remember any multi-part structured, trance-sampling tunes on the one I've heard.
The main vocal sample treatment is reminiscent of his earlier stuff but otherwise its got much more in common with the later EPs.
