i was surprised by how much i liked this video when i saw it on MTV Jams a few days ago

This is pretty cool. I don't know why I don't like or listen to anywhere near as much rap music as I did as a teenager, it's objectively a lot better now.

The opening groove is contagious. I dug his mixtape from last year a whole bunch. He has an EP dropping soon and I'd love to hear more shit that sounds like this.

God damn it. That Bloody Jay & Young Thug tape is too groovy. Totally going to send me down another 1017 mixtape wormhole for the next two weeks.

In an industry dominated by wannabe fashion designers, the wheelchair kid from Degrassi, and fucking Macklemore it is so fucking dope that 1017 exists. I mean, yeah, the glamorization of a criminal lifestyle is shitty. And it is probably the most disgusting thing in the world that music labels owned by fat, white dudes are making money off it. But like, the breadth of Gucci's work is actually incredible. The dude is in and out of prison but has a massive discography of consistently solid material.

Also, that Young Thug & Bloody Jay tape is going to be one of my favorite things of the year. Bloody Jay's delivery in 'No Fucks' is indescribably awesome.

Currently downloading the entirety of the Gucci discography. I'm going to listen to all of this and pull out what I dig and make a playlist. I'll link it here someday, maybe.

I'm obviously not expressing anything novel and I assume most people already have developed some passive opinion of Gucci's work. And I'm not really capable of talking about. But there is something pretty imaginative and sonically intelligent going on in tracks like this...


I had a day to waste with a friend in SF so we made our way down to Dolores Park. We ran into these four dudes bumping tracks out a boombox and this shit came on. I ended up drinking a 40 while everyone shared a blunt. Real recognizing real.
