Re: Now Playing
The ending music in Twin Peaks has been dope. It's a cool trope to end the episodes on. I'm way behind and just watched ep. 4 last night and Au Revoir Simone was good. Chromatics were really really good previously. So much better than the Julee Cruise bullshit.

Re: Now Playing
Have been playing Hop Along pretty repeatedly for the past week or two. "Tibetan Pop Stars", "Young and Happy", and "Waitress" specifically have taken over my Spotify play counts. Also "Selfish" from Forth Wanderers.
Basically playing 90% indie-rock girl groups for a while now.

What, no, Rocking Back Inside My Heart is an all time banger. I want it played at my wedding, my funeral and my first born's christening if I'm desperate for an excuse to throw a party

I'm talking about all of her stuff from Twin Peaks. The instrumental version of every song she's on is far better. I've never checked out any of her music because of that.

Re: Now Playing
i've been geeking out about this song hard for the past few days become some girl had it in her Tinder bio.
the droning chords are addictive for me and she has such an excellent use of space and reverb. i know people on this board like her.

And I'd agree that it's a really good release. I think both songs are terrific.

Re: Now Playing
that's it!
i've always been into Grouper's aesthetic but not necessarily her music. my first intro was when Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill was big back on SOMB. again, i enjoyed her style but the songs didn't stick. since then she's always been an artist i've kept an eye on without really diving too deeply into anything. this single is changing that.

Roky Erickson And The Aliens - I Think Of Demons
In a previous life (early '80s), I was playing guitar in Pentaject. We covered two songs from this LP. We loved Roky.

I'm listening to that one Album that Scopdom Scopp recommended many moons ago with the Indian guy on the cover and it is so wonderful.

Watched this video for probably the first time this century. Pretty amused to find the mean roller skating girl has maybe 15 seconds of screen time considering she loomed large enough in my memory to consume the whole video. I guess I was a teenage boy when this song came.

Re: Now Playing
I celebrate Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights once a year and today is that day.
My relationship with this album is so weird. It is probably one of my 20-30 favorite albums ever but can bring about some really fucked up memories. When it came out I was in a very intense relationship that wasn't positive in hindsight but at the time felt like the only thing that mattered.
We listened to this album a ton and even went to a concert together. I'm just rambling but yea I'm listening to this right now, boarding and having some bizarre feelings resurface.

Re: Now Playing
a brilliant album that should be cherished forever. a record that so strongly represents a time and place, but also has qualities that transcend that moment. i put it on every so often and jam out with those heavy sounds. indie rock doesn't do that oppressive, bass-heavy sound anymore. mid-2000s angular rock is pretty dead. but it's also the sound i "grew up on" musically. is it lame that i first started listening to Franz Ferdinand and Interpol, then got massively into Gang of Four and Television? no, i'm just a modern man.
"Stella Was a Diver and She's Always Down" always evokes strong feelings.

Now Playing: Junior Boys - Teach Me How To Fight.
What a classic tune, I don't think they ever reached these heights again despite a pretty enjoyable discography. Something about this tune just hits all the right buttons.

Re: Now Playing
Big Black Coat was one of my 2-3 favorite records last year, but I agree that Last Exit is peak JB's. "Teach Me How To Fight" is the emotional high of the record, but I'm obsessed with the opening run from "More Than Real" to "Last Exit". that run is so smooth and intricate. it's a perfect ~21 minute summation of great, soulful beatmaking.

yes, this is absolutely one of those albums for me. a defining moment, a harsh moment, a moment that stands aloneNick wrote:I celebrate Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights once a year and today is that day.

More often than not, this sorta style really isn't my thing. I'm down with this though.
First time I've actually listened to it other than hearing Bad and Boujee.
