...The former of which seems to be steering me into a Friday evening to be spent listening to the entire Roxy Music catalogue for the first time in a long, long, long time.

Re: Now Playing
Given my current midlife crisis, I've reverted back to listening to almost all 'indie rock' music and it feels kind of good. Going to be starting a band with one of the guys from Seoul, who most people have never heard of but that have some nice dreamy pop music.
Been playing lots and lots of girl singer indie rock: Alvvays, Vivian Girls, Japanese Breakfast, Mitski, Snail Mail, Big Thief, etc.

i enjoyed this song a bunch this week. some of the lyrics and vocalisms are asinine as fuck, but the crispness of the afro-beat aping sound is too much to deny. same reason i've been enjoying "Passionfruit" a ton lately.
OVO truly does a good job of appropriating and sprucing up other peoples' sounds.

There are too many people to ever count who try to make tracks like this as a full time job now.
Almost none of them are up to it.

Re: Now Playing
Let me tell you, I was having a moment with that album last week.
My list of albums I want on vinyl is short but that is definitely on it.

Re: Now Playing
Two years ago I was doing an overnight drive back down from Edinburgh and I fell asleep for a few seconds on the motorway. I jolted back to consciousness drifting across lanes towards an HGV and almost had a heart attack.
Yokota's Grinning Cat was the soundtrack to my near death experience. Im convinced something in its hypnotic loops subliminally switched me off. Haven't listened to anything of his since and, thinking about it, I've probably been subconsciously avoiding it.

Re: Now Playing
It was this track:
https://susumuyokota.bandcamp.com/track/cherry-blossom
makes my palms sweat to listen to it.
Can't believe its 17 years since Sakura came out. I think it was his death that made me dig Grinning Cat out that night. A sorry business.

I can't find where we were talking about this band and I made a really bad post or two about them, but this song is really great and I was wrong.

Re: Now Playing
The instrumental part in the middle of this sounds like they've probably listened to the Minutemen a lot.
People seem to love and really remember this band, I didn't know they were any bigger a concern than the Phunk Junkeez or The Urge.

i put on "Shady Lane" by Pavement at the park yesterday and Spotify defaulted into "Shady Lane radio" where it started playing similar sounding songs. i got a fantastic dose of other Pavement, Malkmus solo jams, Galaxie 500, early Wilco, and The Feelies. the name The Feelies rings a bell, but i wasn't super familiar. turns out they're great. and they have a new album? whaaa?
p dang good

Re: Now Playing
Sharon Van Etten was on an episode of Twin Peaks a couple weeks ago. I'd been aware of her but never gave a full album a listen. She performed "Tarifa" on the show which is a great song. I'm enjoying that entire album though - Are We There - this week.
