Re: [solved]Hockey Talk
there are 48 games in the 2013 NHL regular season. the blackhawks have 39 pts through 21 games.
last year, there were 82 games. the team with the fewest amount of points to make the playoffs had 92. This is a ratio of 1.12:1 (pts:games). If this same threshold for points:games held true for 2013, it would take about 54 points to make the playoffs.
The hawks are then only 15 points away from most likely securing their spot in the playoffs. At the rate they're earnings points, they could score the amount needed for the 8th playoff spot after game 29.
This would have them "virtually" making the playoffs after only 60% of their season.

I like to think that a guy in his position would rather retire in Ottawa and be a hero forever than roll the dice and chase the cup in another town but I guess 'never say never.' Either way, they'll always love him in Ottawa.Ned Braden wrote:Yeah, the Pittsburgh speculations were definitely grinding my gears.reuben wrote:I don't like all of this Alfie trade talk.

This Pens/Habs game looks like one of those high scoring affairs with shitty goaltending.

Re: [solved]Hockey Talk
good pun.
No hard feelings I just think it's funny to be bored by a game because the goalie is too good. Unless the team is also playing a trap system or has collapsing d like Tampa or the Rangers last year.

I'm just happy that didn't go into overtime.
Boston still has 3 games in hand, but I don't think they have a 2 day break for the rest of the season.

Re: [solved]Hockey Talk
mrs. phixed was at a yoga conference in san diego over the weekend and one of the ladies she went with skipped a class to watch the game. mrs. phixed left her friend's room with her friend in a blackhawks jersey screaming at the tv while she went to the class.
that same day, mrs. phixed spent an hour arguing (very) loudly with the hotel manager about her room bill which tried charging her an extra $100 a night. when they finally realized the mistake was theirs, they gave her one of the nights free.
in all, it sounds like chicago represented itself very well there.

Chicago women have mastered "you wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts!" It's no wonder Andy T has such a boner for that scene.

After the game, Peter Laviolette defended the hit many think might draw a suspension.
"When you look at it, Harry didn't do anything wrong," Laviolette said. "When he was lining up he didn't take strides, everything was down, his arms were down. The impact just made a lot of noise. Sometimes the hits that make a lot of noise get looked at. It appeared going into the hit that everything was in check."
While his coach was busy defending the hit, Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo had another description of what happened.
"It was beautiful," Rinaldo said with a smile.

Man, I can't even believe that guy's real. Like a bad caricature of how I'd imagine rural Canadians perceive nba fans. This team's performance is not impressive because the NHL points system sort of reminds me of soccer or something blah blah blah. Don't know if this is savagery or merely idiocy, but I don't enjoy it.

Re: [solved]Hockey Talk
I wasn't trying to exclude you, Zappo, I just thought the clip would be less likely seen in the UK.
The guy is supposed to cover the Rangers -- who traded three guys for Rick Nash last year -- but he didn't know Columbus had a team.
I do like the cookie idea though. Maybe hand them out during the break before the shootout?
