I’m going to admit on this board that I listened to Lateralus last night. Made it through the whole damn thing.

Bold admission. I've actually gone through the same exercise twice over the past week in anticipation of the August 30th release of Fear Innoculum (the gushing advance critical praise of which has me pretty stoked and hopeful).
And yeah, Lateralus was a baggy mess the day it came out and time hasn't done it any favors. The drumming (the percussive ornaments) are really innovative, some of the longer "deep cuts" have a hypnotic quality, and "The Grudge" and the one/two punch of "Parabol" into "Parabola" are classic Tool songs, but it's otherwise pretty disposable.

That is the song of the year.
Undo, are you aware of "Truth Hurts"? I discovered it last week and can't stop.

I have listened to 10,000 Days a few times since that post. I find it way better than Lateralus and while both albums feel long 10K feels like less of a slog and it’s highs are quite good.
Having listened to Undertow and Aenima so much in my teens I’m always going to get caught up in new Tool hype. The last two when they came out I listened to a couple times and moved on.

I don't understand why "Juice" wasn't the bigger hit, it's amazing.
Really coming around to "Truth Hurts," both of these songs have been stuck in my head for like three days now, like the last thing I'm thinking of when I fall asleep and the first thing I'm thinking of when I wake up.
Should have posted this in the 2019 thread but didn't for some reason.

Huh, never heard of Lizzo before. 'Juice' is exceptional and 'Truth Hurts' is definitely something I've heard in passing before without having any idea who did it, #3 US/#34 UK apparently. Also surprised 'Juice' hasn't been a monster smash, for better or worse the messaging seems to be in touch with the zeitgeist. Glad to know she exists.

She brings the pain, for sure. I just assumed everybody was already into her shit. Welcome 2 the party!

Re: Now Playing
Lizzo has been one of those things for me where it's like "She seems cool, should really check her out" and it never happened and well I guess B96 felt that needed to change.

Re: Now Playing
The songs are cool. I'm not keen on the production. So cold & plastique. That's been my taek on St. Vincent typically too, so maybe she's just not my bag.

Re: Now Playing
There's stuff I love on it but others that, yeah, remind me why I've never bothered going deep with St Vincent. But I haven't lived long with it so we'll see.

Low - Double Negative
This is a haunting listening experience. Had no expectations but now I’m considering buying it on vinyl. Great album.

Re: Now Playing
This is a really incredible 80s new age-y pop album that I've been obsessing over lately. It seems like something that Dan Bejar would probably really like and reminds me of the Talking Heads as well.

Re: Now Playing
Also, who of you all are familiar with Jorja Smith? I listened to her album last year a few times and remember liking it but it didn't leave that much of an impression. I am re-listening to it this afternoon while finishing some work and it is almost bringing me to tears.

Re: Now Playing
Turn in the evening news
So much famine, war and pain on my screen
People dying in the streets
In can't take it, it breaks me down now there's tears in my eyes
But then you walk in the room wearing that sexy dress
And suddenly I'm feelin' all right
You're so fine
Lose my mind
And the world seems to disappear
All the problems
All the fears
And the world seems to disappear

Even though it’s going to be 80 degrees in Chicago today, it’s October 1 so I need to listen to The Clientele’s Bonfires on the Heath.

Re: Now Playing
Listened to Avalon today. Basically the template for Yacht Rock that isn’t Steely Dan. Such a mellow album, perfect for a glass of wine and a Valium, that sounds 80s, right? Which is more 80s, Avalon or a glass of wine and a Valium?
