is this bossa nova? Discogs does not seem to think so. I couldn't for the life of me tell you what "samba" is except it was a rhythm setting on my grandmother's organ that I used to play all the time when I was a kid.

Cool song. Alternative? (I kid, but not really).

Aside from the Portuguese lyrics, doesn’t really come across sounding like Bossa Nova to me... I don’t know much about Samba either, but maybe closer to the mark. I hear it as traditional pop/rock, singer songwriter music with some experimental instrumentation. So, misc/alternative.

This is a really great album. The opening track has some serious Sade vibes. Can't believe I am hearing this album for the first time.

all things Tracey Thorn are banging, but "Mirrorball" is a particular triumph for me

this era of British music is so incredibly influential on modern pop

I am listening to some Pavement albums for the first time in about five years. I never really fully invested myself in their discography, which is a shame. This is making me want to reappraise all of these seminal indie rock artists. It really feels like, post-Covid, we are due for a return to this kind of stuff. New York's economic development model is hopefully permanently fucked, which at least means that young artists and creatives can afford the fucking rent.

And on that note, this new Faye Webster album is really excellent. The production effects on her guitar, which switches between pedal heavy distortion that borders on Hawaiian Lu'au vibes and really tight acoustic fingerpicking is a really gorgeous combination. She is a really great and mature songwriter. It just feels very effortless and sardonic. There is no attempt at poetic profundity, which seems like an easy trap to fall into as a young musician. If this album suggests a new direction in indie rawk music, I am here for it.

I can't believe some of these throw away b-side tracks. The freaks have stormed the White House! Laughing

Weird since last year I’ve been listening to lots of music that I didn’t absorb previously but really wanted to. Music I had absorbed but wanted to revisit and Pavement was somewhere in between.

Probably a couple months ago I plunged back into their stuff and came away feeling super bored.

But as a caveat, my head space right now is focused entirely on Dylan’s discography. Specifically, Rolling Thunder Revue era and I’ve listened to that version of “Isis” 24 times since yesterday.

Have either of you ever gone deep with Dinosaur Jr? Lotta guitar heroics and clever wordplay if you’re into that sorta thing.

I never fell in love with pavement, I like their music and his lyrics are good but sometimes it feels like Malkmus is like see what I did there? I rhymed clay with Chardonnay! Or, ‘you thought I was gonna end that sentence normally but instead, I hesitated on the last word and said a completely different word!’ But, with that being said, Summer Babe (Winter version) and Cut Your Hair will always live in my heart as 2 of the best slacker indie rock songs.

this B-side is a good Pavement litmus test:

almost a parody of what the band is known for. i really enjoy it because it's raw and fun. the "clay with Chardonnay" freestyling IS Malkmus. i tend to think that if you don't like that, you don't like Pavement.

they have some songs like Summer Babe and Cut Your Hair that are great "songs" in the crossover sense, but you won't like the album tracks if you don't like meandering bullshit.

Took my son record shopping for the first time at HIS request. He bought Operation Doomsday and ATLiens. I bought Tri Repetae, listening at the moment. Also got a new Subwoofer so I’m banging these walls right now!

    Füxa - very well organized

This thing sounds so good right now. It’s been probably 15 years since I listened to it but the subwoofer has brought out all kinds of old stuff.

It turns out I was listening to that Fuxa record at 33 instead of 45. IMO, it sounds better at 33!

Yeah, that Luomo is a classic. Did you ever listen to that RA ripatti mix he did? That thing was insane! It’s like the opposite of Luomos warm soft grooves

I think I'm incredibly late to the Boy Harsher party (first heard them about 3 months ago), but better late than never. Definitely my favorite newly discovered band in years.
