Not quite what I thought this band was supposed to sound like but then again I am currently listening through the world's worst computer speakers.

I learned about these band when I read that this guy threw out the first pitch at a baseball game.

It reminded me to listen to one of the other bands named Ghost for the first time in a while.

Yeah. Or, if anyone can name 20 better, I'd love to see that list.

(Japan) Ghost - Hypnotic Underground is a highly underrated album. Fans of late era Ween would probably love.

I think I downloaded this off Soulseek back in the day. I haven’t listened to it in like 15 years though.

Boyz II Men had four number one hits on their own in the US (not counting collaborations with other artists), apparently this was one of them and despite living through this period of time and the subsequent life of captive listening to radio and background music formats where this really should be a regular staple of such playlists, I cannot say for sure if I've ever even heard this song before.

ONCE AGAIN I cannot wrap my head around the aspect ratio changes in this video, it begins and ends in this hyper widescreen 3.06:1 shape where everything is distorted and looks like shit and the director was like "yes, let's go with this!" and since the rest of the video looks fine, it seems like this is not a product of being incorrectly converted for uploading purposes. The Wikipedia entry for the song doesn't even mention the video at all, only IMDB reveals who the director is. Love the opening sentence and the hype for an upcoming movie that came out almost 20 years ago.

I'm surprised this went to number one. I definitely do remember this coming out and being super excited about it, and I can only think of one other guy who was. And then it kinda disappeared. Decades later Boyz II Men would be the opening act for a 98 Degrees reunion tour.

Something changed or was lost very quickly after this point, perhaps it was inevitable but if they'd truly know it was coming, could they have stopped it?

I haven't a single one of these after "A Song for Mama". Also, this chart has me wondering when Backstreet Boys made their debut. 1997 sounds about right.

    Second woman - second woman

This is a psychedelic electronic tour de force. Fans of textured ambient should give this one a go. Not as soft around the edges as some of that stuff, maybe a little closer to squarepusher and similar. More swooshy than prickly if you get what I mean.

Apologies for spamming TNOs links in different threads but this is highly relevant if you are curious: https://www.stereogum.com/2186842/the-number-ones-boyz-ii-mens-4-seasons-of-loneliness/columns/the-number-ones/

tldr Boyz II Men had crazy chart success despite (because of?) making music that was a throwback to the '70s and in opposition to the sound the '90s, but by 1997 the influence of rap and futuristic R&B production meant that they went out of style extremely fast

    Sam Shalabi - On Hashish

Totally forgot about this guy until a friend mentioned him today. Went to Bandcamp and I guess he’s been releasing music the whole time and I was completely unaware. I considered listening to some new stuff but then I saw this one and remembered how much I liked it. Since I hadn’t listened in probably 20 years, it felt new at times. A pretty good album if you like improv music, ‘new weird America,’ or post-rock that leans toward free jazz

Anyone else here like these guys besides me? If you crossed the falsetto harmonies of CSNY with jammy kraut rock, it would sound like this album.

I received Konigsforst today and my G A S collection is basically complete. Not sure if I want Der Lange Marsch or Oktember. As much as I liked Der Lange Marsch when it came out I’d put it at the bottom of my list. It plays a bit too much like a ‘greatest hits’ instead of a new album. Clearly this was his intention but I don’t think I need that album if I have the others. With that said I asked ‘preference revealer’ to help me determine how my list would be ordered. Here it is:
    Pop
    Rausch
    Konigsforst
    Narkopop
    Zauberberg
    Der Lange Marsch

Konigsforst and Narkopop can be flipped on any given day, since I received it today, it wins!

I showed you mine, now show me yours!  Now Playing - Page 16 1f603

No wonder I never really "got" this song, I was boarding on my mom's work laptop when this came out and playing it through her IBM Thinkpad speakers.
