Re: 2023 musical recordings
Nah, Grimes procreated with fucking Musk, she’s shit for life after that. I’m glad she got herself some generational wealth to look forward to but that is the ultimate sellout move. An ‘indie darling’ getting with a billionaire, can’t get more ironic.

Man, remember how Grimes and Ariel Pink had a feud and how both of those people are the worst fucking humans on the planet

Re: 2023 musical recordings
This has played every time I turned in to WXRT over the past three months.
Is this a real hit or just some thing they're latching onto that I'm just noticing because it isn't

Either the newest Anteloper album or any of the fly or die albums. Fly or die live does the first 2 albums as a suite plus gives you some insight into her personality.

I had XRT on like once this month and this song was playing. They kinda did the same thing with Spoon last year.

Re: 2023 musical recordings
Hi guys.
I agree with BG about the Colin Stetson album. It is my favorite by him and so far my most played album from this year. Here's most or all of what I have been enjoying and/or am looking forward to:
Colin Stetson - When We We’re That What Wept For The Sea (Frantic ambient, amazing sax playing)
Model/Actriz - Dogsbody (Xiu Xiu meets Liars meets Shaking the Habitual, maybe?)
Sprain - The Lamb as Effigy (quickly becoming my favorite from the year; Slint meets Swans meets Godspeed)
Girma Yifashewa - My Strong Will (out in October but the first singles are really nice. Modern "classical" stuff)
Geese - 3D Cowboy (just straightforward indie rock but with really really nice clean mix/master and a goofy off-putting voice that grew on me)

Re: 2023 musical recordings
Is this song a pastiche of anything specific? It's not like they arrived at this particular sound without trying to evoke something that already exists
I am certain I'd be grilled for saying that I like it in any way, shape or form
So fire up the grill, I guess.

Yeah toss me on the Barbie too, I liked that song and that movie and I swear to god I didn’t even mean to do that then I realized what I’d done and I don’t know whether to feel shame or pride.

Planning on spending a rainy Sunday checking these out! Sprain sounds like it was made for me but that album length is intimidating.

Just thinking about how good Speedy Ortiz would be if they tuned their instruments.

The new Laurel Halo album Atlas is really great. Bliss swirls with darkness in a dream world that is constantly changing. It’s reminiscent of GAS but that comparison doesn’t do it justice. Give it a go when you want to dreamily contemplate how you spice tonight’s dinner.

I listened to that the other night and it was really unique and somehow not really like anything else I've heard from her. Good stuff.

What can I say? The soft minimal sounds of late 90s and early 00s artists like Pole, Oval, and Vladislav Delay might be coming back. These guys, from Chicago, basically take those artists and make an album out of it. Rest on this musical pillow as you float down memory falls, crashing into foam lake. Float there a while and be still while the bubbles twinkle and pop all around you.

Re: 2023 musical recordings
I love Octo Octa’s Dreams of a Dancedloor EP
Trance, dNb, and other polyrhythmic dance musics come together in each track. Carefree and light as well, a nice way to spend about 25 mins.

Re: 2023 musical recordings
The new Olivia Rodrigo album is pretty rad. The most I’ve enjoyed teen girl is emotional ranging from depressed to angry about boys in a long time. The first track has some 90s ass alt rock guitars that sound like they could be from like a Weezer or That Dog song. All the rockers are pretty cool throughout. “get him back!” is incredible. Pretty isn’t pretty sorta sounds nothing like the rest of the album but feels like it could be an 80s pop hit a la the cure or a 2020s pop hit a la whatever is popular in 2023.
