I'm listening to Last Splash right now. I always knew that it was fucking great, but... it's fucking great. I've actually always underrated this album, for the simple reason that I only ever want to listen to "Cannonball," and so neglect the rest of the album. I had the same experience as a 12 year old in 1994 with Weezer and "Say it ain't so," but by 1996 I had moved on to listening to the the rest of the jams at least as much and more.

On Cannonball: it is such a cool, of a time song, and it reminds me of the sketch in The State where the guy discovered that wearing pants was a key to professional success.

On the rest of the album: I honest to god don't think that my attention span ever got all the way to "Drivin' on 9" until today. What an idiot I've been for most of my life. Obvs.

Yeah, real classic right there. Think MTV used to use "Divine Hammer" as bumper music. Never once saw them play it otherwise. Idiots.

That’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Saints is another song that I’ll love for all time. ‘Drivin on 9, lookin for the 30, maybe I passed it, go another mile.’ Prob top 10 road trip lyrics right there, makes me laugh or at least smile every time. Invisible man is the best shoegaze song not by a shoegaze band. I said all of this about 12 years ago on SOMB when I had tried to listen to Sir Mix A Lot and found The Breeders in the tape case. One of the best musical surprises of my life. ‘Does love ever end? When two hearts are torn away, or does it go on? And beat strong anyway. You loved me before, do you love me now?’ No need to unpack that brilliance, simple and effective. This ones going in the coffin with me.

Dero was bitching about them playing that record in its entirety a few years ago at Pitchfork. Fuck Dero.

I bought Last Splash and the first Collective Soul CD at Target on the same day when I was in 8th grade.

Just learned of this album today and have been playing the following track repeatedly since hearing it. Smokey sax and and keys, a nice hazy warped little loop and standup bass. Super good stuff.

Holy shit, this is what The 1975 sound like? Kind of like a shittier, less anthemic version of 'These Words' by Natasha Bedingfield? That's not really what this sounds like at all but I love that it was my first reaction. Lame band

IMO, they're bad. And I really liked "Chocolate" and "The City" from 2013.

Everything they do at this point feels like pastiche with no heart. It's lame.

"I Got 5 On It" is a Bay Area classic and everyone here knows it. Jordan's wife, comedian Chelsea Peretti, is from Oakland and went to the same elementary school as my mom (and Andy Samberg). I feel that she is a good influence on his Bay love.

In high school, anytime we wanted to get a few bags for the weekend we would always say, "I GOT FIVE ON IT!!"

    However, the remix is better:

A buddy of mine had a childhood innocence meets accidental racism moment that resulted from this bona fide killer pop hit. He went to an Asian restaurant with his wife and toddler. There were many Asian children among the clientele, and little dude got super jazzed about it. Started pointing at kids, singing Baby Shark, and doing the chomp dance like a maniac.

I listened to Phaedra several times the past few days along with Zeit & Rubycon. This was all done at work on headphones.

But today I’m working from home and playing them from speakers at fairly loud volume. They are incredible pieces of work.

I've decided to be much more intentional about how I listen to music again. To better organize myself, I got back on last.fm, which has helped some. Is anyone else still using this thing? I found that Paves went through a big Zappa phase recently, which is cool.

Stopped scrobbling once I moved to non-spotify listening platforms - I imagine it's not that hard to link it up to Tidal and iTunes though?
