He just released an incredibly well received album with a tour planned. Depression is fucking scary and it just seems impossible to take care of ourselves and each other.

I'm curious how old most of you guys were when you got into his music.

I first heard a Silver Jews song a couple of weeks ago. Didn't do much for me, but it was just the one song. Still pretty fucked up that he hung himself. Horribly dark shit.

I don't know... 22 maybe? Didn't like them initially but they grew on me massively. Genuinely think that Purple Mountains may have been his magnum opus, but Jesus Christ I should have read more authorial intent into his latest batch of lyrics. I never made the jump from Pavement to Silver Jews, and while I can't tell you much about Silver Jews, they were definitely viewed as a "Pavement side project" during the 00s (and probably before that) and I was really into all things Pavement from 98 to 08 (?).

Tanglewood Numbers was pretty well received on JDFF as a mid 00s indie rock album, iirc (for better or worse).

I got into American Water in 2006. I was 22.

I love the first Cars album. I liked it when I was a kid when my parents would play records on a Saturday afternoon. I rediscovered it towards the end of the 90s when I started going through their vinyl. I’m tired of a few of the songs but I can still listen to it straight through. Moving in Stereo is one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s got that perfect 80s kinda vibe, dark and tinged with neon. Maybe they didn’t invent it but I think they perfected it and had the biggest influence.

This sucks.

Not sure if anyone else round here cares about The Faint, but keyboardist Jacob Thiele died.

I liked The Faint. They were young/that seems young. "Agenda Suicide" was a high school anthem for me.
