Rap groups are inefficient when the primary aim it to churn out releases and turn a profit become famous and achieve sustainability. That's why you see so many "groups" that are loose contingents of dudes grouped together, but not really operating as a group aside from guest verses on each other's records (ASAP, glory boyz, odd future, brick squad, etc). Maybe? Does that make sense?
I feel like Rich Gang was pretty close to actually being a group, but they sorta disintegrated right?

Who is Meek Mill and why is everyone making Meek Mill internet memes? Maybe this peaked a few weeks ago, I don't know.

Why is every single music website reporting about his beef with Drake? Is this really important? I don't visit Consequence of Sound very often but last week their whole news section was updates about who Meek Mill is dissing and who is dissing him back.

I could listen and decide for myself but that might take a whole afternoon, I know you're all on top of this and your opinions mean a lot to me.

Meek Mill is pretty good rapper who is popular and has recently has been dating Nicki Minaj. He made a claim that Drake uses ghost writers (almost certainly true) and Drake has spent the last couple weeks making Meek Mill regret it. Haven't heard the two diss tracks Drake made or the one Meek made in response but this all seems a bit one-sided. Anyway, Drake is huge and there's a complex soap opera aspect to this with the Nicki Minaj connection so it makes sense this would get coverage. Not like much of anything else is going on out there.

Anyway, if Escobar Season has a better take I look forward to hearing it.

This isn't a rap song but do you have any loppinions about this album?

Go ahead and laugh or worse but I've still never heard it. Used to listen to this a lot in my turbulent early 20s, though!

The only sound recording (singles aside, obvs) of NWA's that I've heard is One Hundred Miles and Running. Maybe we should listen to this this August as a board.

Straight Outta Compton has some pretty mundane filler, typical of 80s rap music really. About two-thirds of the album is great.

I'm really enjoying the new Dre album listening to and from work in my car which (running playlists aside) is depressingly the only way I listen to music in 2015.

Yea the Dr. Dre album is solid in what's been an overall great year for hip hop. I've listened to Future, Kendrick, Vince Staples & Young Thug more than anything.

Listening to Liquid Swords for the first time in a few years. "4th Chamber" is just unstoppable. The whole album is still amazing.

A friend of mine was in Israel recently and he heard "Regulate" by Warren G bumping out of some restaurant. I was really excited when I heard that for some reason...

I don't listen to music at all anymore. When I drive I listen to 92.3 or 107.5 and if that fails I listen to Voodoo, Black Messiah, or New Amerykah because those are the three CDS that I have in my car.

Ready to Die is an exhausting album. Sure it is in the 90s canon and is outstanding but usually after it ends I feel drained by how intense the story telling is for an hour plus.

That's how I feel about Life After Death (and Wu-Tang Forever and 2001), except because they're pointlessly long and completely joyless. [/casualfan]

It is definitely too long for my liking but songs like "Hypnotize", "Mo Money Mo Problems" and "Going Back to Cali" are far from joyless.

I have no idea why Meek Mill and Drake are 'beefing' or if it even real... But either way, this "Summer Sixteen" track from Drake is exactly what I wanted to hear today on my unusually sunny drive home.
