Re: Television Discussion Thread
In a sharing is caring mood... it's sorta weird psychosexual personal shit, but whatever...
This episode, so far, is very very accurate in its portrayal of my entire adult life.
Samberg is a mess obviously. The girl in the office who works with him, who is also a fuck up but with a brain that... at least in this case, works a lot better... she's helping him figure out why he's an idiot who's in debt. The actress playing this girl... is basically a carbon copy of an irl best friend of mine. Who fits the bill in every way, right down to her way of talking, being a trainwreck in general, and her physical attributes - not unattractive, certainly not anywhere in the vicinity of my 'type,' and yet, super sexy in some undefinable way which is probably related to confidence and just the sexuality attached to the phenomenon of being way better than every other girl.
Been one helluva shit year in the romantic department for me, but I still believe in things that are fragile.
But fuck... episode has me thinkin bout things.
Show is really good 17.5 episodes in by the way. And also, wasn't there a thread where Darkbloom corrected our grammar mistakes? Couldn't find it, but pluralising the word "sir," has me fucking aggravated for whatever reason.

Shit did fuck with me a lot, and it's a multiple instance re-watch for sure, but dammit if that wasn't one of the finest episodes of tv i've seen in a while. Or maybe it's just cause my head's in a certain place.

Brooklyn 99 is a pretty funny show. i haven't watched it regularly, but found it entirely reliable when i was seeking out ~24 minutes of situational comedy.

Came in here to post the same thing. I've phased out p much all sitcoms from my life, but I wouldn't complain if someone put B99 on.

Joe Letruglio (no way that is correct spelling) has never been a guy to impress me. He's always in things I think are brilliant, but he's just sort of there in an, "oh, it's that guy who's ok, I guess it's cool that I know him" sorta way. He's still not top tier or anything here, but Brooklyn Nine Nine is the best he's ever been by far I think.

Archer is still a pretty great show imo. Finally getting around to the seventh season, and watching the episode that appears to be a remake of Fletch.

Never finished the second season of Twin Peaks, something I'm remedying right now. Blew my mind to find out Sue Ellen Mischke was on this show, which I didn't put together until I saw her a few days later in Gilmore Girls.

This season of tv pissed me off the first time through. It seems like the storytelling became so lazy after season 1 was basically perfect in every way. Though there were still a few iconic set pieces and memorable moments. Plus, the finale was brilliant.
Sort of a spoiler alert, but not really a big deal:

Re: Television Discussion Thread
I agree with your assessment one hundred percent about the difference between seasons 1 & 2. I feel like they may have stopped showing the fake soap opera An Invitation to Love because the show itself started taking on too much of a soap opera feel (albeit, a bizarre and terrifying one). Had a lot of trouble giving a shit about Jean Renault (RPI, Michael Parks) and am having a lot of trouble giving a shit about Windom Earle

I was sick on Saturday and did a binge watch of Master of None season two. There were a few episodes that felt out of place with the arc of the story, and the first episode wasn't as strong as the rest, but overall I enjoyed it. Lots of personal connection with what the character is going through towards the end of the season tho so who knows.

Re: Television Discussion Thread
I started that one when it was new and didn't get too far, maybe only up to ep 3. Not for any reason (I liked it. It certainly was no Flaked) other than I can't handle more than 2 or 3 shows at a time and I don't like watching tv alone, so when I'm binge watching something, it's like one or two episodes 3 or 4 days a week for however long it takes.
We started Orange is the New Black last week. I like having several dozen hours of a show I know nothing about to sink into for a few months. The last one I watched like this was Nurse Jackie, which so far OITNB resembles in a few ways. Mainly that it seems like heavy subject matter but is probably ultimately no more substantial than, like, Daredevil.
The Affair is a very interesting show, and I'd like to try to watch it over from the beginning at some point. The most recent season was a total Mr. Robot-style bullshit waste of time though.
Billions is so astoundingly dumb it's actually fascinating. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Ha. I came here to post about how calamitously awful I found the new Twin Peaks shit to be. Diff'rent strokes, I guess. I envy your enjoyment! I hope it grows on me, or something, but I think the reality is that I'm only ever going to like the first eight episodes of this show.

Re: Television Discussion Thread
I can understand that reaction. I read quite often about this being the Golden Age of television because of Netflix and HBO but I basically despise most shows and have maybe 2 I watch consistently.
So, I watch these first Twin Peaks episodes and have a weird reaction that yes, this is what I want in a show.
Other than The Young Pope I haven't felt as fascinated by a TV show as what Lynch is doing with these return episodes.

Every minute of Twin Peaks this season has been a gift but Belushi was next level last night.

Man, laughed so hard when I saw this.
Was holding out to binge this with the wife, but we've both been really busy and I've been traveling. And now we're living apart for almost a year with only sporadic visits. So... yeah, I watched a handful of these episodes and they're fucking amazing imho. Exactly the sort of thing I'd have wanted it to be. Excited at the prospect of watching more.

I find the new Twin Peaks to be incredibly compelling AND stiflingly boring and pointless at the same time. The Lynchian disregard for any semblance of order allows me to kick back and enjoy the show without pouring over every detail.
This whole arc in the story is basically pornographic. Not far off.

Re: Television Discussion Thread
This is pretty much where I'm at with this season as well. The lack of plot (or coherency really) can be frustrating at times and I probably give this show the benefit of the doubt more than I should just because it's new David Lynch material and it's been twelve years.chrondog wrote:I find the new Twin Peaks to be incredibly compelling AND stiflingly boring and pointless at the same time. I don't know how this can be possibly be wrapped up.
