Re: Podcasts
I don't know what the fuck it compels me to do other than listen to more episodes, but whatever.

Re: Podcasts
I listened to the first episode. The woman that does all the talking has the most obnoxious voice you could imagine and some of her fucking expressions like, "He has the eyes of the dairy cow" or "Don't let her appearance fool you. She will crush you" are inexcusable.
But beyond that, after 40 minutes I honestly don't give a shit if this guy did it or not. I am completely indifferent so good luck "Adnan".

Re: Podcasts
that "she will crush you" line elicited a rare full-body cringe.
I kind of wish she was more of a questionable narrator rather than a mildly irritating conduit. I suppose using true crime as the platform for a post-modern hall of mirrors might be of questionable taste.
Quibbles aside, I'm sufficiently interested in the subject matter and format to persevere. I don't think I'm invested in the murder to the desired extent but I love hearing a brief moment in time being re-hashed from various perspectives and in various voices.
Looking forward to the inevitable backlash when it finishes with no resolution. Hopefully she's just staring into space contemplating the stars like the end of True Detective or Snow Country.

Re: Podcasts
Well since that I know it's going to end with someone staring into space and contemplating the stars there's really no point in reading it now is there?

I'm torn between listening to that or watching the season premiere of True Detective tonight.... Might go crazy and do both though.

Re: Podcasts
Simmons going to HBO for what sounds like a multi-platform deal. TV show, online content and podcast.
This has been rumored for a while but I'm excited to see what a 30 for 30 style show on a weekly basis with the HBO touch looks like.

Re: Podcasts
The play writer Annie Baker was on WTF today. She was kind of fascinating and one of the better interviews he's done recently. Anyone seen her plays or read them?
She has a collection on Amazon for $14 that I might buy. Just curious if anyone was familiar though.

Re: Podcasts
Simmons needs an editor for his new podcast. Dude spent well over an hour talking to the guy in the new Rocky movie. I was working out and after 45 minutes couldn't believe he was still dragging it out.
The pod before that he spent over an hour talking to some weird basketball gambling expert. It was basically an hour about the Warriors.

Re: Podcasts
It was big for a few days until the 24 hour news cycle churned through it. Lots of Republicans voiced outrage that we'd risk soldiers' lives to free a deserter.
I don't feel like this has the same intrigue the first Serial did. People are too familiar or not interested.

Re: Podcasts
I remember hearing about that and discussing it with my friend one day in the car. We both thought that dude seemed pretty alright and were upset with how he was being treated. What is going to happen with this? Some general is going to "make an example" by putting a dude in prison for life after he already experienced years in captivity as a POW.
Gotta support the troops, though, right?
