This is a very good album. It’s kinda like a mixture between jazz and folk. Vaguely trippy at moments but really reminds me of the sea and cake. If you like Sam Wilkes other work I’d say give this one a listen. If you like the Sea and Cake, definitely listen to this album.

I think this is what I always wanted Gastr Del Sol to sound more like or something

A week after I posted that, the CD was back in stock and I easily purchased it. Of course, it's on my shelf with the shrinkwrap still on it and I've just streamed it any time that I've listened to it.

Yeah, pretty rough story. Wondering why something like this from April 2023 is only breaking now. I assume because court/legal processes take forever?
    Either way, sad stuff.

What can I say? The soft minimal sounds of late 90s and early 00s artists like Pole, Oval, and Vladislav Delay might be coming back. These guys, from Chicago, basically take those artists and make an album out of it. Rest on this musical pillow as you float down memory falls, crashing into foam lake. Float there a while and be still while the bubbles twinkle and pop all around you.

This is one of my favorites of the year.

Not to get too hung up on it but it does re-summon everything I love about a certain kind of electronic music that people made between 1997 and 2003 or so and I can't get enough of that sort of sound.

At this point, Purelink have firmly cemented their place as the boy band of ambient music. The trio, all in their 20s, craft freewheeling laptop jams that pay startlingly accurate homage to early dub techno. Without a bit of context, I initially thought that Purelink was a relic of the scene that sprung up around the label Chain Reaction in the ‘90s. On their second release of 2023, Signs, Purelink showcase their subdued side. Across the six tracks of the Peak Oil-issued album, cloudy pads and pearly melodies are underlined by deep basslines. Occasionally, sparse percussion emerges from the aural mist, pushing things into clubbier terrain. But for the most part, Signs is better suited for the spa than the afterparty. Listening to the record feels like screaming into a pillow, if the pillow was inside you.

the fuck is this supposed to mean

I've never even seen a picture of them

I assume your question was meant to apply to the bolded portion of the text, but it also seems applicable to the rest of the passage, which I’m having a real hard time deciphering. Reads like pretentious music writer madlibs. I’ll grant that “screaming into a pillow, if the pillow was inside you,” is a pretty great turn of phrase even tho I’m not sure I understand it.

it's just voicey music writing from a goofy writer joking about purelink being a trio of young dudes instead of some old heads in their late 40s

what else is hard to decipher about that blurb

All sorts of great music last year - I'm not much for making lists anymore, but Cornelius' new thing might be tops.

    Nothing, really.

I was just wondering if these guys were indeed conventionally attractive and if the writer was clarifying that their hottness actually had nothing to do with how much he liked the album.

Im enjoying that Troye Sivan album and finding it to be much more than just that one super hyped song about poppers (which is also quite good).
