Oh, none taken. Anybody who doesn't have that knee jerk distaste is suspect imo. I guess over the years the more that shit has surrounded me the more I've become inclined to laugh at it as an overblown, ironic and sort of scary joke. Didn't see what you were referring to though since obviously I was watching the puppy bowl.yancy wrote:No offense to Members-Only Ninja Turtles Fan Forum's resident American hero Ned Braden, I just have a kneejerk distaste for patriotism, especially in a sporting context.yancy wrote:Still, fuck that closing ballad & military montage.

This was horrible television. And I say this as someone who watches 2 hour-long Dog Shows whenever they're televised.

I'm not really disagreeing, but given the choice of Super Bowl Halftime Show 20XX and Puppies, I'm still going with the latter every time.undo wrote:Ned Braden wrote:I was watching the puppy bowl.

we flipped over to Kitty Bowl on Hallmark Channel for a second during the big game and they had an actual score and game clock for that. made absolutely zero sense.

Re: NFL Discussion
Sorry the game wasn't more sporting. But I'm disappointed that more people couldn't appreciate the historically dominant single-game defensive effort that my boys put together. I still think that your 1985-86 Bears are probably still the best overall defensive squad, but in terms of a single-game performance, that was truly epic.
Anyhow, I'm still geeked. Wish I could have been up back home for the apeshit yesterday.

Darren Sharper - ex-NFL star, part time NFL Network contributor, probably a millionaire - happens to be a good looking guy that can walk into most bars and have the 3 hottest women fall over each other to fuck him. Yet, he is drugging and raping chicks all over the USA.

Re: NFL Discussion
The NFL is awful. In its size, its cultural omnipresence; in the comfortable planes of orbit its gravity provides for the dipshittiest commercial expressions—don't let your disapproving nag-harpy of a wife keep you from watching football with your bros, bro!—of self-entitled dudebro avarice; in the soft-focus gauze of mythological virtue and leadership with which it shrouds its asswipe heroes—Vince "Winning Is Everything" Lombardi, Bill "A Complete And Total Fucking Psycho" Belichick; in the relentless enforced stupidity with which it talks about itself; in its callous disregard for the well-being of the people whose toil is its lifeblood; in its glorification of brutality, its reckless conflation of itself with actual combat; in its cynical defenses of its status quo, its monumentally disingenuous half-gestures toward improved conditions for the workers who make it go, and in its enabling of the continued enrichment of a churlish little shitbag vulgarian in a feathered headdress, the NFL embodies everything that is worst—dumbest and most destructive and reactionary—about American capitalism. Like American capitalism, it is a malignant cancer, and deserves to die.
It's not going to die in 2014. Hell, the confetti from the upcoming Super Bowl will scarcely have settled before coaching-carousel intrigue, free-agent movement, draft speculation, and talk of their fantasy football implications will rev the fan-interest engine back into motion. Realistically, it's not going to die in 2015, either—or 2016 or 2017 or 2018. Hell, it may very well outlive most people who will read this. But, it deserves to die, and horribly, and in scandal and disgrace and shame, and soon, and the world will be a better place when it does. Here's hoping.

Re: NFL Discussion
I agree with the spirit of that blurb, but I doubt that the bad things mentioned would magically disappear if the NFL dissolved tomorrow. People would find other outlets for "self-entitled dudebro avarice" or whatever. Nature abhors a vacuum.
Am I part of the problem if I just enjoy watching football? Probably, I suppose.

Gonna be hilarious when Denver coasts through the regular season but cocks up in the Divisional Round despite spending all this money.

Re: NFL Discussion
it has been scientifically proven that Peyton Manning can be game planned for in the playoffs by studying his regular season film. he will always run the Peyton Manning offense. he can't change it up for the playoffs and that's why he's so predictable and schemeable.
Denver has no choice to overpay a bunch of guys they're going to cut next year until they finally win or Peyton retires.

Not that the draft isn't interesting but can't you just refresh the ESPN page and find out who is being selected so that you can watch some hardwood or hockey action. Or the Cubs finally get some runs!

I don't watch basketball, I only watch hockey during the playoffs when the Hawks are on and NFL DRAFT NIGHT takes precedence over baseball.
And the Packers are next on the clock!!!
