SNL has always been uneven. If you can check out full episodes from whenever, they're never hilarious all the way through, and often sucky for half or more. The current cast is the funniest since the late 90s, Farrell Hammond heyday, particularly these people:

    Featured Players

    Aidy Bryant
    Kate McKinnon
    Tim Robinson
    Cecily Strong
and Nasim Pedrad, Bobby Moynahan, and Teran Killam.

The aging veterans don't do much for me, but the Starbucks commercial that they've run a few times is classic and Fred Armisen is much funnier on Portlandia.

whoa, take it to the Elite SNL Opinions thread.

that Verismo ad is such a piece of shit, i'm really surprised to hear that.

i've come around on most everyone on the cast this season, but a few of them can be really bad at times. Tim Robinson goes completely anonymous half the time. Aidy and Cecily have some really strong characters but not a lot of comedic range and so some of their skits turn to mush. i really warmed up to Kate McKinnon hard over the last few episodes.

Armisen definitely doesn't "bring it" for SNL but i like his style so much it doesn't matter too much.

i like seeing what skits the celebrity does. Christopher Waltz was amazing. Martin Short great. Bieber was fun. Jennifer Lawrence was frustrating but intriguing. i liked Justin Timberlake rapping about vegan food. i like The Californians. i loved Taram Killam's Chanel #5 ads. i like most of the commercials they do except the Verismo one (because i thought it was based on lame racial caricatures and five years dated). i still love Seth on Weekend Update.

i am critical of SNL because i am critical of everything but i really enjoy the format of live television and think the experience of watching people try and pull it off is rewarding.

Mad Men is probably one of the greatest series ever created. It's miles beyond The Sopranos if people still use that as a modern benchmark.

Really, other than The Simpsons there is nothing that at its peak comes close to what this show delivers.

Vanessa Beyer's long suffering white girl thing really does it for me so I'm cool with the Verrisimo sketch even if my experience with Starbucks is more over-eager struggling musicians and introverted design students.

Mad Men is some wonderful television. And Cartoon Network just put a whole ton of nonsense on Netflix instant so I'm ready for the summer.

Yes, Mr. Kurtis confirmed, it would have to be a regular letter "Z."

A little while later, Larry Riesberg, a 57-year-old stock-options trader, piped up from the back of the tea shop: "Did you call G-59?"

Mr. Kurtis said that he had.

    "Then, Bingo," Mr. Riesberg said.

I've been watching the Bates Motel.

It's been pretty good, until last night.
A cop gets killed and the head sheriff is like, no big deal, I'll say I did it. Some bad writing.
