2014 Musical Recordings

Hey guys. Been on the boat for a while and currently throwing down in Bahrain for an afternoon. Just poppin in to say howdy and see if anybody's jamming these new Reigning Sound and Marshall Staxx albums. Preordered and excited to hear when I get back to the good ole USA.

Had a buddy back in high school. All time awesome dude. When we'd play baseball he'd used to cheerleader bullshit to me from first base while I was pitching in order to make me fuck up and laugh. "Come on now just-bust, stay cool now, be the cucumber!" His head was enormous. One time we convinced him to shave it and it looked like a mega huge Easter egg.
We used to put together hilarious lists of favorite bands and shit. His were better than mine, cause he was actually smart, but they were all pretty retarded. Hadn't heard from him in like 15 years but he plays guitar in the above band. Really cool shit. Like I guess I'd say a few degrees of separation from Chromatics.

Staxxx album is the shit. Very stinky.

Didn't know it was coming out, even, but I bought it yesterday.  I found a $50 visa card the other day and went to Reckless and got Dead Rider, a used MOTO lp, Genesis' Duke, this guy I know's band's album (it's decent), and this Reigning Sound one.  Lucky I was paying close attention to what was on the wall, cuz they didn't have it filed under GARAGE R (they had Live at Goner and some Oblivians so I was in the right section) and the cover art isn't too good.
Anyway, good set of tunes.  Sounds exactly like the new album by The Reigning Sound is supposed to.  Mine has two download cards inside, which I will not ever redeem.

Perfect latter-day Rivers Cuomo self-referential lyrics. Sometimes it feels like Weezer singles are obvious and write themselves, but no one else can do it.

Pretty good stuff! Reminds me of Film School, one of the all-time most dependable "get buzzed on $2 cans of Schlitz at Schubas and lose yourself in reverb" nu-gaze bands.

so this will probably be the best album released this year, I assume.

we'll see when we get there, I guess, but for now I'm excited that it's simply an album that's going to be released this year.

i need to read this thread more often. fucking love music go music, really excited they've got a new one. i was also a fan of (most of the members') prior project, the dirge-heavy Bodies of Water

Oh, I've heard it. It's definitely the same artist. It's been suggested that the 'Randy Duke' (lol) in this video is Lewis, guitar picking style is remarkably similar

I just tried listening to this Lewis shit. What is this Lewis bullshit?!

Most mysterious and rare album of all time, only a handful of copies found in the middle of nowhere some time ago, finally officially released this year 30+ years later despite no one knowing who the artist is aside from unverified sources or where he is now.

Then within a few weeks of that long-awaited release they find a second album from him or something, despite years of lots of people digging for other stuff from him with no real leads that any other recordings actually exist. And now it's suddenly out.

Seems fake to me, but I look forward to hearing it all the same. That cover art undo linked to is too perfect an '80s pastiche to be real. Reminds me of Kavinsky minus the supernatural angle.

Really digging this Change Of Heart / Sleeptalker single by TOPS. Could be destined for the basement jukebox if I decide it's worth $10 shipped.

This is my favourite album from this year i think.

I saw her walk past a billboard for that album a while ago. not that improbable around here I suppose but pretty surreal nonetheless.
