All the songs that sample Heartbeat are awesome. It might be one of the best sampled beats next to Paid in Full by Erik B and Rakim

It’s Marshall Staxxs’ birthday today and I’m listening to the Snake Eyes/Point Blank EP and fucking shit man I often forget just how damn shred-tastic this shit is/was. A generation-defining artist for me so long as drunk and meandering confused in your early 30s counts as a “generation.” I’m nearly positive I’ve posted about it on this board before but once I ordered one of his LPs, I think it was Prisoners of Jambalaya, and as a “bonus disc” he sent me a “live at tortilla flats” cd that was just him and some buddies singing karaoke at a Mexican joint and one of the songs they did was “Cowboy” by Kid Rock.

I love how Around the World in a Day is like a 15/10 candidate for greatest album ever, but since it's Prince it's barely if even in like his top 5.

I'm listening to that right now. It's a fun thing to do loudly while getting into the life of life.

    Hail to the Theif.

I love listening to the non-universally-agreed-as-all-time-greatest canon Radiohead albums, because they’re just as good.

I haven't listened to that one in a VERY long time.

Kind of worried it's going to summon some bad memories but there's only one way to find out.

That song is rad but holy hell what a choice for soundtracking a prison death montage.

I’m intrigued. Sounds like something I could get down with when I’m over my only listening to Caroline Polachek and Chairlift phase.

I bought the entire People Like Us catalog for $40 the other day and I’m certain it’s one of the best $40 I’ve ever spent.

People Like Us - Thermos Explorer

    https://peoplelikeus-vickibennett.bandcamp.com/album/thermos-explorer-2023-reissue

This album is a top ten most influential album for me. As with most of the music that I post here that nobodies heard of, this artists contributions to what we are doing with music now can’t be underestimated. Cut up is east enough and when you’re plundering all of your source material you don’t really need to be a skilled ‘musician.’ But having a film makers editing EAR can be almost as important as and editing EYE. The way they cut the material into hilarious snippets of dialog and short songs is unmatched in my mind. If someone can find another artist that has done this style better, please point me in that direction. Does the whole genre of Vaporwave owe a debt to them? YEA! Just stop reading this garbage and go listen to the album. It’ll be one of the finest, funniest, and most unforgettable things you’ll do today.

People Like Us/Matmos/Wobbly - Wide Open Spaces

    https://peoplelikeus-vickibennett.bandcamp.com/album/wide-open-spaces

Cut up of country/western leaning samples. Could I say more? Sure. But I’d rather give you the thrill of discovery! If you want something that’ll give you peaceful easy feeling and laugh too, then come on down! (I think Michael K would love this)

Learned just a little bit about Punjab today, which I knew nothing at all about except for this being the only "Punjabi" thing I could think of

This was a somb hit iirc, but I guess it was in many places back then

This is an artist I have always wanted to check out, anything with this theme always feels like... an odd entry point or something? But I will listen to this!
