This is the best thing I've heard all year. It seems kind of genreless to me, despite all the individual sounds being fairly familiar. I'm not even sure which tracks to link to since they're somehow all A. standouts and B. better in the context of the full album.
    yeah this is great

thanks for reminding me about this bros.

totally appreciated left turn Mr Blunt.

nice little companion mini-album that he recorded in a Moscow hotel room and put out for free last week:

If you like The Necks and such, you should check out Dysnomia by Dawn of Midi. Heard about it on Radiolab. I'm generally suspicious of music suggested by public radio entities, but this is quite nice. Sort of a slow motion, motorik thing, but haunted by the horn-/voiceless specter of Fela Ransome-Kuti.

listened to this on the way home this morning and it blew me away.

on the first play through i caught references to Ray Mancini, Livingstone Bramble, Bernard Hopkins, Tavoris Cloud and Keith Thurman, which warmed the cockles of my fight geek heart.

Not very excited if this represents Jackson's new direction.

Smash still sounds ahead of its time, but this new single already feels dated. Reminds me of some late '90s / early '00s Sneaker Pimps or Gorillaz type pop song. With a disconcerting dash of Awolnation / Imagine Dragons faux-indie AOR grit.

Pretty cool "everyone is doing it" moment in the video, though. Mildly NSFW.

I was hooked in like the first 12 seconds. Then the singer happened. Neutral I think Two Door Cinema Club fulfilled my quota for catchy percolating guitar pop with busy & accented vocals.

I don't know, this sounds pretty good:
Pitchfork wrote:The cheerily plodding power chords and excruciating rhyme scheme of “Another Toe in the Ocean” recall Green Album-era Weezer, or Lit. The turgid crunch of “What Goes Boom” summons uncomfortable memories of Papa Roach covering “Gouge Away”.

i would have a hard time calling this "really bad" but it's not particularly inspiring

    certainly no "Don't Let Go"!

crazy time for the Drexciyan after-spores - this might top the Stingray joint from last December.

on a somewhat related note, i loved that Overdose album from this year and the second photodementia is gold too.

Random Access Memories has not held up for me. I really liked it for a while and probably should not be surprised since this band is kind of shitty anyway.

Not sure about the Factory Floor album. Loved their EPs and "Fall Back" is one of my SOTY. This album is long and I'm not sure if I like their repetitive style in this long a dose.

gotta say that this is some goddamn kooky talk if I ever saw it.

as satisfying as it is to hear koz backed by a (quite wonderful) full band for the first time in a while, that record is some lazy ass bullshit in more than a few places. I think we've far since reached the point of diminishing returns on the rambling tour travelogue-type song he's been pumping out with alarming regularity for the past few years, even though it's still sounding alright. Mariette and Katowice or Cologne and Seal Rock Hotel are some of the better/best tracks on here.

but the real problems for me are "hey you bastards I'm still here" and "you are not of my blood." those are some dull, plodding, piece of shit, if you ask me, and for chrissakes my favorite of his is the rollercoaster album. then "livingstone bramble" which is a funny joke the first time you hear it but not for very long after that.

I'd love to see him write more character songs like "don't ask about my husband," and "sometimes I can't stop" and "brothers" are two for the ages.

Perils From the Sea wipes the floor with this album, at any rate.
