This is the first track off of this album. If you’re a fan of Mr Fingers style deep house this album is for you. Perfectly mimics the sound of that era while also sounding like it came out recently. Melodic and positive just like good house music should be! House heads will wanna hear this immediately. For the rest of you, it’s a good album that I would put on while doing something repetitive, like dish washing. Approach it without intent and I think you’ll enjoy.

Previous albums by the band Big Thief did not excite me much. I do like this new one though!

^agreed! I really liked Lenker's solo jawn from 2020, but then was sorta deflated after seeing her live. She was good and all, but the crowd was irritating and the songs sounded *exactly* like they do on the the record, which isn't what I'm looking for at a live show. Really like the new album, especially how weird it fires out of the gate w/ the sequencing on the first three tracks.

I saw Big Thief live in October 2019 and I was mostly unfamiliar with them. I was very pleased by the performance. Adrianne commanded the stage and the band went into some extended jams that were really good. Nothing like I had heard on record. I became a fan.

I don't think their records quite capture that sound, but liked both the 2019 albums U.F.O.F. and Two Hands. I think songs like "UFOF", "Cattails", "Not", and "Forgotten Eyes" are fun.

Lenker's 2020 solo work seemed a lot more stripped down and "singer songwriter-y" which is not something I'm interested in. So I mostly ignored it and the new record.

The new record sounds even more country, is that accurate?

There's some of that, but I'd argue the new record is just "more." As for Lenker's solo thing, I think I agree with that sentiment. It's singer-songwriter-y, but her lens is pretty far from the typical. I also really love that record for the second disc, called Instrumentals. It's absolutely beautiful improvisational solo guitar and ambient sound. The way she approaches the guitar feels VERY different from "the norm" and I could listen to her noodle for hours. Her solo show missed that - it felt like the songs wanted to expand into jams and improv, but instead just...ended.

I listened to a Big Thief record one time and it did nothing for me. But a little while ago my brother was playing this absolutely killer song on guitar and he told me that it was Big Thief, so I most definitely need to revisit.

On an unrelated note, I'm listening to the new Animal Collective record and loving it more than anything I've heard out of that camp since they reached peak indie over saturation (with the exception of maybe Avey Tare's Down There album or the time I went to a Panda Bear show in Lisbon).

Noted that you posted here and in the psychedelic drugs thread at the same time and was sorta just assuming it was the same post twice.

New Spoon album out too. That band has IMO been consistently wonderful throughout their career. I listened to the new one a couple times and feel like “My Babe” is going to be one of my favorite Spoon songs.

Fuck yeah. I've never listened to Spoon and been like, "this is dumb, why am i doing this?"

Never had much use for Spoon, but I've been a bit more receptive to the new songs I've heard. Not sure if it's them or if I'm getting old.

2022 simply cannot stop. First Black Country, New Road - seriously, listen - then the new Big Thief, and now this stunning yeule record. I'm hard-pressed to name an album from '21 that I liked more than any of these records.

Oh except for the Low album. That one is better than all of these, but it hardly counts as music.

If you’re a fan of ASMR stuff this is an excellent album and probably right up your alley. With that being said I also thinks it’s his most emotional and relaxing work since Diskont 94. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

At first I felt the new Cate Le Bon album was too same-sounding but it’s just taken a few listens for it to sink in. Another fabulous release from her.

Crash fucking slays and if there is any justice in the world “Yuck” will take center stage as the good vibes summer jam on B96 or whatever the 2022 equivalent of that is.

Charalambides - What Is To Come

Glad to have new music from this group. Improvised psychedelic drone music. If you’re new to them, they’re in line with the quieter moments from no neck blues band and Jackie o mother fucker. Folky and kinda southern gothic, very minimal, sounds like guitar, banjo, and vocals. Later, some effected electric guitar too, but that could be the acoustic with effects, it’s hard to tell. Somewhat melodic at points but her voice leans dissonant. Good stuff if you like this sorta thing, not for everyone.

SunnO))) released a live recording this year and it’s awesome. Just 3 tracks, 2 from Pyroclasts, 1 from Life Metal. However, these versions do not sound like the originals. On their studio records it seems like they stick to the formula for the most part. This live recording shows that they stretch a bit, as much as this formula can ‘stretch.’ Some synth, organ, trumpet help round out the guitar heavy sound which sounds loosely improvised. Beautiful, grinding, and spiritual, great record.
