my least favorite thing about this song is potentially having to explain to people that i actually just love this song and don't care to endlessly debate the "Arcade Fire" name attached to it.

I just read a description of the new Mark Lanegan album as a "pipe-and-slippers album." Seeing as how I'm now an adult in my 30s, I feel like I should get on that just out of principal.

I'd probably like this band if they took themselves a lot less seriously.

yeah mimesiak is top 5 of the year for me. the new ep he's done on argot is really good too.

can't find a 'proper' link, but this is the stream of one of my other favourite albums this year, which just turned up in the mail today:

word, I've been impressed by the gunnar haslam lp. only given it like 2 full spins but it's weird and eerie and impressively groovy at the same time.

huerco s. I was less impressed with, but only have given that one shot yet. just makes me want ghettoville even more, really

both the gunnar and the huerco are absolutely great - gunnar because it's like driving on mars, and huerco because it's like an opium fueled dream in a train

listening to the marcel fengler album for the first time and it's def great - the softer moments moreso than the typical berghain sound bangers

also i think i'm falling in luv with the electric lady, time will tell

Is it still 'churches' if you're saying it out loud.

I've liked everything I've heard, but I haven't been able to sit down and listen to an album or even songs of my choice for a month at this point.

Dream River. Sort of unknowable and completely intriguing to me right now. Apocalypse was an easy album to like, but I can't so easily cotton to DR. I don't think I really get it - the songs seem shrouded, still amorphous when I'm listening to and recalling them - but it's pretty much all I'm listening to. Excellent opener/closer combo - I know that much - but I couldn't really tell you anything else about the album. Doesn't feel that different from how I first felt listening to things like Mark Hollis & The 5 EPs.

The Chvrches album is better than I was expecting, but with HAIM's album coming out at the same time I haven't had all that much time for it.

Michael K.'s post on the new callahan is OTM - not as easy to penetrate as apocalypse but it's rewarding me more and more with each play.

those are some rather lofty comparisons that I don't much agree with, but I hear what you're saying in general about Dream River. it seems a bit of a tough nut to crack.

"Summer Painter" is one for the ages though, I do know that.

Winter Road & One Fine Morning are basically 2 album closers that bring me to the brink of tears each time I hear them.

m b v is in a category of its own as far as I'm concerned but if you remove that from the equation Dream River is my AOTY.

Tiny Mix Tapes has a big boner for this Oneohtrix Point Never album. I can't understand why because it just sounds like Brian Eno rip off.
