Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Reflektor is out there on the intertubes.
it's about as good as the premise (ie - arcade fire fuck off to haiti for a while and then make a record with james murphy) could have possibly been, I think.
it's pretty good.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
that's still not out yet, huh
I guess I was wondering how the run-up to this was going to go, surely they have a team at work making sure that this album is the biggest "event" of the year and such.
I don't mean that cynically, everyone wants to be popular.

Wp, did you like the spinn record from earlier this year? Think it was teklife 2.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
A friend of mine would always bump it in the car when we were driving around and I dug it a lot. Although I never downloaded it for myself. For some reason I thought those tapes both came out last year.BGwaves wrote:Wp, did you like the spinn record from earlier this year? Think it was teklife 2.
I also really like the Rashad EP that came out on Hyperdub. First track on that thing is a masterpiece.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
I've spent the last two days listening to a shit load of Blawan, Surgeon, Karenn (Pariah + Blawan), and Trade (Surgeon + Blawan).
It's been the shit. Feeling really fucking intense.

What is this new Moonface bullshit? Is it really just Krug playing his piano?

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Another new Melvins album, Tres Cabrones. The personnel on this one is the "Melvins 1983" iteration of the band - Buzz, Dale on bass, and original pre-Dale drummer Mike Dillard. All new material.
Pretty decent Melvins album. A potential "where should I start with these band?" recommendation, even.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Played the Melvins "Goin' Blind" on the jukebox last night at my friend's 50th birthday party, and he started raving about how great A Senile Animal is. I have lot of recent-ish Melvins records to catch up on.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
I'm a pitiful excuse for a Melvins guy, but I like what I've heard and have enjoyed them live.
Also, FWIW, last night's party was upstairs at local watering hole Bandito Barney's Beach Club and Bordello.

Ah, Banditi's. I know it far, far too well. Andy T passed out in the (outdoor; not sure if you would've seen this) lagoon/pond/moat thing, one time. That was an evening, let me tell you.

Yeah, I got a tour of the grounds last night. Turns out the owner is my neighborhood pinball friend's brother. Small world.zappo wrote:Andy T passed out in the (outdoor; not sure if you would've seen this) lagoon/pond/moat thing, one time.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Holy Christ this new Swans live album is brilliant. They are the best live band in the world right now and this recording captures how punishing and uncompromising they are. Even more than We Rose From Our Bed which I thought was quite good as well.

Re: 2013 Musical Recordings
Really, really getting into this new Castevet Long Player, Obsian. Mathematical Brooklyn Black Metal not unlike that last Tombs record (in terms of texture). They've also listened to a lot of Enslaved, apparently. Hints of noise rock in places, even, with Touch and Go sensibilities. The whole thing takes a while to wrap both ears around, but it really rewards repeated listens. One of the better metal releases this year.
Nick, I bet you'd dig this if you haven't heard it...
