Every Air Over Water release has been a notable progression from what came before, but this is such a big leap forward that it's almost hard to believe it's from the same artist.

    https://airoverwater.bandcamp.com/album/crystal-mountain

I've listened to this almost every night over the past week, just a beautiful album to get lost in, there's a depth to this that's really unexpected, such a complex layering of acoustic and electronic textures. Absolutely zero idea how this was made so maybe the artist might laugh at that description but w/e.

If you were curious enough to read this thread for any reason other than to just make the orange square disappear, grab this immediately.

Damn, thanks so much! I definitely wanted to make this one shorter and consistent and I think it paid off. I appreciate the positive review. When I started under the moniker I had little idea what I was doing (night river I felt was just going to be a one off release that I quickly put out without much thought in editing or production) and I do see a progression when I look back myself (at least in terms of reining in mistakes, trying not to overindulge, honing in sound, etc).

In the late 90s and early 00s, Keith Fullerton Whitman released several IDM/glitch records under the name Hrvatski.

This name just translates to... "Croatian"?

I don’t know if this link will work, hopefully it will
    https://open.spotify.com/user/ryan.mr/playlist/3eUMFPldoBB2nB3CJzNeD9?si=-fb2ik42SleNs5_PsnfB5A

I made a massive playlist today. It started out as finding the old Darla “Bliss Out” series I used to listen to, then I went through the old Kranky catalog. Then I just went through my album saves and picked a whole bunch of ambient and assorted drone stuff, a bit of slow rock and ambient vocalists. Most I’ve listened to, some of it is new to me as well. Put it on shuffle

Share your playlists too if you have any!

I have a lot of questions about these but I think the only way I'm going get them answered is to just put in the time of listening to them myself.

I need to get back into Spotify, I wish I didn't consider them such an evil company. But I do business with all kinds of villains every week so what's stopping me this time?

I think they’re a little dated...I’m more attached to several of them for sentimental reasons. The Lily’s one is cool.

Okay, so these are just "normal" albums that all of these artists/bands put out on the Darla label?

    https://www.discogs.com/label/238873-Bliss-Out-2

They're still listed as being released by Darla, "Bliss Out" doesn't seem to be a sublabel or anything like that. Right?

I know no one has the answer for this but was the record label like, "hey, we're going to do this series so how about you make something that fits into it really nice?"? Or, "hey, we love the new album you turned into us, of course we want to put it out, oh but hey can we make it part of this little series we're doing? Cool, thanks."

I know this doesn't make sense but I'm asking for reasons.

My hunch was that the label asked the artists if they wanted to stretch out and try something a little drony or jammy.

Or after the first couple, artists sought them out? Not really sure, I have very little idea how labels even worked back them and especially now.

It was a minor release (like got next to no attention) but I loved it and played it a ton.

The cover I think had ocean waves and rocks.

    Anyone know?

I was never going to come close to finding this.

    Yes it is!

So are the last two Jake Muir albums. All 3 on Sferic, which seems to have a good ear!

Highly recommended for readers of this thread.
