Re: 2019 musical recordings
Was a good 2019 music day for me. Got back on dry land and listened to the Carly Rae that super holds up imo while running. Then had a lot of fun listening to Sturgill Simpson and got a pleasant surprise when my little brother’s most recent release featured lyrics I scrawled on a dry erase board while bummed out hanging in my kitchen.

They’re pleasant 40-ish minute folk albums I guess.
I really like Two Hands. Nothing prior clicked for me - closest was Masterpiece - but I've put on Two Hands while cooking dinner w/ the wife and kids lately and it's been a good fit.

"Very good" seems a better description of Big Thief than "mind-blowing", sure.
Also that is a very cool song C-Poots.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
Both of these Big Thief albums have really clicked with me over the last couple of weeks. I like U.F.O.F. a little bit more as a whole, but the second half of Two Hands (basically from "Shoulders" on) is really strong. This is the most that I've gotten into a rock band since.... a really long time.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
New Swans album is quite subdued compared to the 4 albums they put out in recent years.
I’ll be interested to see how Gira leads these in a live setting. The 2 times I saw them between 2010-2014 were the most intense, loud and outright punishing concerts I’ve experienced.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
In the unlikely case you were wondering (or even noticed), I in fact am excited about the newly reunited Vivian Girls. If I were in a more analytical phase in my life I might feel the songs on the new album aren't as strong as previous records, but it's great hearing new versions of this sound so fuck it.

"rock airplay" okay sure
If I were an actual music person I could explain this with any sort of competence but the part at the end of the chorus where her voice goes high and the music sorta pulls back ruins this whole song for me.

Thee Oh Sees - Synth 12”
This might be the most unexpected turn from these guys. Terry Riley insanity! Flows nicely, kinda wonder if it’s done in one take or patched together. One take would be impressive for a group not known for this type of thing.

Sure did. And it sounds exactly like a Wilco album, pretty much. I dig it and am seeing them in March, but I'm an aging white guitar music fan with kids, so.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
I've acquired more hard copy music in 2019 than I had in many years previous, but a lot of old stuff, and I haven't been paying attention to what's been coming out lately.
In approximate order:
Facs - Lifelike
Royal Trux - White Stuff
Scientists - 9H2O.SiO2
Oh Sees - Face Stabber
Reissues:
Endless Boogie - Volume 1,2
Alex Chilton - Songs From Robin Hood Lane
Alex Chilton - My Rival
Got a few good ones for the Blaze list though.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
I somehow missed Bill Orcutt's Odds Against Tomorrow when it came out last year. Not sure if anyone here anymore is a listener of Orcutt, but I can't enough of what he does. This new thing is gorgeous - melodic, mournful, but still wildly chaotic. RIYL: John Fahey, Nels Cline, Hendrix's National Anthem, free jazz.
