I'd love to see the "research" these people are doing.

Did Colin Powell die of “COVID-19” complications or did he die because he’s an 84 year old man fighting cancer that has wrecked his immune system?
He was fully vaccinated but vaccines cannot stop death and certainly not in 84 year olds with an already crippling disease. Just seems weird that majority of headlines have not been pointing out he was fighting cancer.

Re: Lysol Slammers
Yeah, bad take. The cancer weakened his immune system substantially which made him susceptible to a COVID-19 breakthrough case. Your body needs to generate its own immune response once you've been injected with vaccine, and having a life threatening, immunodepressing disease like cancer severely impacts your antibody production. This is what everyone has been saying about "COVID co-morbidities" since the early days and why we've stressed the need to protect the immunocompromised post-vaccine. His death was a direct result of the laissez faire attitude the country has adopted post-vaccine that has determined the old/sick really don't deserve protection and they can roll the dice and go fuck themselves.

Re: Lysol Slammers
What kind of attitude would have kept an elderly, severely immuno-compromised person alive?
Anyone high risk I’m assuming is getting vaccinated and are taking proper precautions along with those around them. And I’d assume anyone high risk would only want vaccinated individuals around them.
I guess what I’m saying is we can’t eliminate breakthrough cases. We can’t prevent death with vaccines and certainly not in cases like this.

As a society we can be approaching this with a great deal more care, and I believe that's what Chrono was talking about.

Uh..... we can't? Like, nothing is 100% and certainly not if you're an octogenarian with cancer but the vaccines are preventing, like, a lot of death.

We could, more or less, with strict vaccine mandates to eliminate the disease.

No time to catch up, at the moment, so I'll just ask: is everyone here alive and vaccinated? I hope everybody and their families are healthy and safe!

Re: Lysol Slammers
I got a flu vaccine yesterday and was shocked by the number of young-looking people getting booster shots. Apparently they're approved for anyone who got Pfizer more than 6 months ago? That's next week for me, so I'll probably get a booster around December. I figure I have a strong immune response and my protection hasn't worn off too much anyway.

Yeah I haven’t gotten a booster yet but I’ve considered it. My second shot had me sick a good portion of the day, so I’m hoping to avoid that this time around!

Re: Lysol Slammers
Went to Outdoor World AKA Bass Pro Shops on Saturday to return something and just decided to do a lap around the store to see it would help me finish my Christmas shopping. I've been going there for years and unsurprisingly this was the busiest and most packed with customers I'd ever seen it.
By the time I got into the back of the store I realized that there was, in fact, no mandatory masking policy as I've come to expect from every store I've been in over the past year (save for a three week period a couple months ago at my local grocery store when they were suddenly optional) and that almost half the customers were just completely unmasked. Got the hell out as fast as I could but I was shook. As I'm sure most people there would have loved me to be.
It's all on me for being there in the first place or expecting anything else than what I got.

Re: Lysol Slammers
Going on day 4 of COVID. I’d advise not getting the virus. My fever is gone but the fatigue and coughing fits are awful.
My kids had symptoms for about 12 hours and now are totally fine which is a relief but it’s wrecked my wife and I. I’ve lost 9 pounds because of zero appetite. My wife ruptured her eardrum from the combination of coughing and blowing her nose.
I’ll also say this, telling someone with Covid to “Just imagine how much worse it’d be if you weren’t vaccinated” is not comforting or allows for reflection. For me all it’s done is cause irritability LOL!

Re: Lysol Slammers
It just feels like a matter of if, not when, I am going to get this fucking thing. Everyone has rationalized this now as something that is basically no big deal since Omicron is less lethal and vaccines provide some level of immunity. But yeah.. rupturing my eardrum from coughing fits doesn't really sound too appealing to me. I'd probably pass on that one if given the choice, tbh.
Anyways, really sorry Nick. Hope you and your family are feeling much better very soon.

Re: Lysol Slammers
Our school district is going crazy this week. Governor Pritzker’s school mask mandate got overturned in a downstate court but our district is ignoring that and keeping masks mandatory.
There was a board meeting last night where anti-mask parents were berating the board and pro-mask parents and teachers called anti maskers domestic terrorists.
We are still at like 3k deaths per day from Covid but I can see how stupid and half assed our state is acting at this point. If you want to make a real impact then fucking step up and shut it all down again. Shut down restaurants, make grocery stores have a cap on capacity, enforce vaccination to the point leaving your home is impossible without it.
Certainly end in person sporting events at all levels. I went out to dinner on Saturday and the whole performative act of wearing my mask from check in to the table only to remove it upon being seated is ridiculous. No one at the bar was wearing a mask in between sips of a drink. No one going to the bathroom was bothering to put on a mask.
Seriously just shut it all down entirely and actually enforce something real.
